This is inspired by the story: "To Build A Home" by bananannabeth on tumblr. It's amazing, go check it out. They are not demigods in this. Just saying, this is pretty sad and cliche.

Annabeth hasn't had a best friend in a long time. Truth be told, she didn't really want one. So, she didn't make any advances towards people. But one boy did. At first, Annabeth despised him. His name was Percy. A black-haired, green-eyed boy who didn't know how to shut up or give up. He insisted on being her friend. Annabeth hated him. But was he really all that bad? They broke the ice with simple questions like 'what's your favorite color?' Or 'What do you like to do in your spare time?' After playing a very prolonged game of 'twenty questions', Annabeth decided that they were...peers. And he sure like to come and annoy her.

They were friends, more or less acquaintances. They hung out at school, had their own secret handshake, and had inside jokes galore. But Annabeth wasn't feeling the sense of "best" in this 'best friend' nonsense. But Percy sure did. He came to annoy her often.

Annabeth admitted it. They were friends. They went over to each other's houses and did their homework together, well she was doing her homework, he was just complaining about his. But it wasn't all fun and games. They helped each other through the loneliness. Her mom left when she was seven, his dad left when he just a baby. Sure he had other friends...but Annabeth didn't. She felt...territorial? She didn't know what the knot in her stomach when he hung out with his friends was, but she didn't like it.

Jealousy, that's what she called that feeling. She got over it...more or less. She made a few more friends, but none of them had an as strong bond as Percy to her. Then, she started to notice more. Were his eyes always that bright? Has he always held my gaze that long? Annabeth couldn't describe the new feeling in her stomach. Butterflies is what some might say, but Annabeth was not going to admit it.

Annabeth noticed the distance first. He was far away. One day he said he didn't feel good, and went home, saying his back was the problem. She nodded and walked him home. His house was a few blocks down, an easy walk, but he seemed to struggle. He thanked her and bid his goodbye.
As she walked home, she thought of what could have happened. He's never like this. Then, she walked into...Luke. He was one of her early childhood friends. They hadn't hung out since she was six, when he got that jagged scar down the left side of his face. She didn't like to talk about it.
"Hey, you want to go to my party tonight? I haven't seen you in while," he asked. She didn't like his tone.
"I have plans with my friend, Percy, I think, so no," she said as she wondered if her and Percy are still on for that movie night they had planned.
"Ditch him," Luke suggested.
"No! I can't just skip out," she said.
"C'mon, just say you got something going on and that you can have this little get together another time," Luke said with a smile. Annabeth did want to catch up with Luke, maybe they can be friends again. She rubbed her arm uncomfortably.
"B-but I've never lied to him before," she said, looking at the sidewalk.
"Then maybe it's time to change that," he said. She sighed. How can she say no?
