"So you think we aren't happy?" she asks me through the phone. Well, she was pissed to say the least. "I am friends with all of your fans! This is just a bump in our relationship, Luke. It happens to all couples." I can imagine her crossing her arms at this point.

    "It isn't working." I sigh.

"We just went public, Luke. We have to stay together; it's part of the deal."

    "We aren't happy, A."

"I am happy," she sighs, "Well, I was."

"I'm sorry," I shake my head.

Arzaylea and I have been arguing for at least twenty minutes. She called asking me how I was and I mentioned a few things I apparently wasn't supposed to mention. Oops.

"Listen, we can figure this out later. I love you!" she says.

"Okay, bye A." I hit the red circle at the bottom of the screen.

Someone shuffles behind me. Her petite body leans against the table in the kitchen.

"Hey," she breathes out softly, "I am so sorry, Cal said I should come get you an-"

"It's okay," she frowns and looks at the ground, "Really, Mason, it's okay."

"Okay, I just didn't mean to intrude or like hear something I wasn't supposed to."

I stride towards her, "Mason, I would be mad if it was anyone else, but it's you and I am not mad."

"Okay," she smiles and looks at me. "Anyway, I came in here to talk to you about something."

"What is it?" I move my hand so it brushes her cheek.

"Um, Luke?" she looks up at me.

    "Yes," I smile down.

"What the hell are you doing?" she whispers. A small smile forms on her lips.

"Oh, um I was just moving a piece of you hair out of your face - yeah that's what I was doing."

Mason tilts her head to the side, then laughs. "Okay, anyway, Cal and I were writing and he had to go so Mikey and I wanted to know if you wanted to join us."

"Ah, sure. I'd love to." I say quickly.

"Great! Meet us in the music room. You can't miss it." she speeds out of the room down the hallway.

Mason's POV

"I call it I Know You Care." I have been explaining my newest song to Michael. Apparently Calum Hood, the secret keeper, told Michael about it and what it was about.

"So is it about someone specific?"

"Well I started writing it about my parents but then it turned into me slightly falling for someone else despite how they were treating me." I shrug. Mikey smiles and meet and nods his head.

"Luke," he breathes out. My eyes widen. Was it that obvious?!

    "What no it's n-"

"Glad you could make it." Mikey says getting up from the couch and grabbing a guitar from the rack.

Relief washes over like a tidal wave. Hey, that would be a good lyric.

"Hey, M and M," Luke chuckles. He holds a guitar in his hand and begins plucking cords.

    "Hello," I sigh.

    "You okay?"

    "Yes."

"Good." I swear I could see his smile appear for a second. He looks so...

"Mason, can you play your song?" Mikey asks from the other couch.

"Um," I glance at Luke, who is now intently staring at me, "Sure." I walk towards the piano in the corner of the room.

"Clinging to me," I sing quietly. "Like a last breath you would breathe. You were like home to me. I don't recognize the street. Please don't close your eyes. Don't know where to look without them. Outside the cars speed by. I never heard them until now."

"Louder!" Luke cheers, "I want to hear!" I glare at him then roll my eyes.

"I know you care. I know it is always been there. But there's trouble ahead, I can feel it. You are just saving yourself when you hide it."

"Yeah, I know you care. I see it in the way you stare." I know he cares about me now, but before he was so rude and annoying. Even if it's only as friends I am glad he cares.

"As if there was trouble ahead and you knew it. I'll be saving myself from the ruin. And I know you care."

Luke's POV

"As if there was trouble ahead and you knew it. I'll be saving myself from the ruin. And I know you care."

I do care. So much that it makes me question my relationship.

"I used to run down the stairs. To the door and I thought you were there. Do you shape through the comfort of us. Two lovers loved out of love." Mason sings as she plays the chords.

"Oh, but I know you care. I know it is always been there. But there's trouble ahead, I can feel it. You are just saving yourself when you hide it." Her eyes close as she belts out her lyrics. "Yeah, I know you care. I see it in the way you stare. As if there was trouble ahead and you knew it. I'll be saving myself from the ruin."

Do I stare? Wait why am I asking myself that. This song isn't about me. Why would it be?

"And know it wasn't always wrong. But I've never known a winter so cold. Now I don't warm my hands in your coat. But I still hope.

'Cause this is how things ought to have been

And I know the worst of it wasn't all that it seemed

Why can't I dream

Why can't I dream

'Cause I know you care

And I know you care

I know you care

I know you care

I know it's always been there."

Mason sings out the last lyrics before turning towards us, looking expectantly.

"Woah, Masey that's really good." Mikey grins. "I liked it." She laughs and thanks him before sitting back down next to me on the couch.

I lean towards her, close enough so only she could hear me.

"I do care."
