We were at breakfast. It was like any normal day but Alex and Emily looked especially troubled.

Of course, it was made known to us when Malfoy walked in. James and Rose would never not say something.

I keep quiet most of the time. It doesn't feel right to judge but I didn't feel right whenever I was around Malfoy.

Malfoy walked in with a strange expression on his face. Once he walked past us James and Rose started talking.

"Did you see his face?!" asks James.

"He looks like he just saw a ghost!" I laugh.

I wasn't paying much attention to them, though. Alex looked like he'd been petrified and Emily looked like she was about to vomit.

What was up with them?

"Why is Malfoy in Gryffindor," Rose asks. "He's not brave. He should be in Slytherin, he doesn't care about anyone else."

"You probably shouldn't say that," Alex says quietly. Emily looks even more sick now. "Maybe he does."

James and Rose look confused when he said this. They looked at each other and then back at him. Alex started to squirm in his chair. I could see that even though Emily didn't say anything this was part her idea.

"What do you mean?" asks James. "He's a Malfoy!"

"He has a point," says Emily. "You can't judge someone by where they come from. Everyone is different."

No one spoke for a moment. I decided to say something.

"I don't want to be mean. Maybe he's not like his father. Maybe he is a good person like us."

"What are the chances?" asks Rose. "He's lived with Draco Malfoy all his life. How can he not be bad?"

"Dad did say a lot of things Malfoy's dad did was not because he wanted to," says James. "It's possible his dad wants him to not follow his footsteps. I just don't want to give him a chance and realize I've done the wrong thing."

"We talked to him," says Emily. "I think you guys would like him."

"What are you guys talking about?" I ask.

"We talked to him last night," says Alex, looking down. "He's really nothing like his father. He said his father was a coward."

"Maybe I will like him," Rose smiles.

"Can you guys please talk to him," asks Emily. "I don't he's the person you treat him like."

James and Rose didn't talk. They clearly did not want to go but felt like they had to.

"I'm going to go talk to him, whoever wants to come with me be my guest," I say standing up and starting to leaven the table. I see out of the corner of my eye Alex and Emily smile a little.

"Now?!" asks Rose confused.

"Well, why not?" I say. She looks angry and I know she's going to come.
