The Hunger Games: Everthorne

Chap 1

"I VOLUNTEER!!" I shout. "I volunteer as a tribute."

I think everyone stop breathing. But, I can't go back now.

"Fantastic" says Effie Trinket. "Come here dear!"

Prim starts to scream and grasps my waist.

"Prim let go!" I say harshly. It is already hard for me; I don't want to cry. I don't want to seem weak. "Let me go!!"

And then, she screams louder and her grip was less strong. I turn around to see Gale.

"Up you go Catnip." He said gripping my sister and pull her away from me. Her screams were painful, but a got finally on stage.

"What's your name darling?" asks Effie.

"Katniss Everdeen." I say weakly.

"I bet my wig that was your sister!" She said with a big smile referring to Prim.

I nod my head, powerless.

"Let's give her a big round of applause!" Says the lady, but no one did. They stay silently, all thinking the same. This is wrong. And then, one by one, people are doing the three number salute. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love. I stock my tears in my throat, I'm going to cry later, not now.

"And now, for the boys!" says Effie Trinket.

I focus my gaze on Gale, it can't be him. He has to help our families. The woman picks a envelope and opens it slowly. I'm not breathing.

"Rory Hawthorne!"

Oh no, I think. I know what Gale is going to do.

"I volunteer as a tribute!" He says in a clear and strong voice. I swallow hardly, I will have to kill my best friend in the games. The odds are clearly not in my favor.

The man get on stage and Effie asks is name just like she did for me.

"Wow! What I wonderful year!"

The audience stay quiet. The woman clears her voice.

"The tribute of district 12, Katniss Everdeen and Gale Hawthorne."

We look at each other, it's now time to shakes hands. He tightens his, but I go strikes in his arms. He hugs me more strongly than I have expected. No one can separate us. The peacekeepers say that it is time for the visit and we both enter in the Justice Building, without let the other go.
