Chapter 17

"You are Gale, right?" She asks, still in the tree.

"Yeah and you are Rue?"

She nods and then look at Catnip.

"Do... do you need some help?"

"Yes, it will be nice."

She starts to get down slowly from the tree. While I was training, I saw her with Katniss. It means that if Catnip trusts Rue, I can trust her too.

"What happened?" Asks me the district 11 girl, looking toward Catnip.

"She receive a knife in the shoulder from one of the career."

"Does it bleed?"

"I don't know."

I crouch beside the girl of my heart and I look at her bandage. It covers of blood.

"Yes, it still."

"Okay, hum... do you have knife or something in metal?"

" Yes, why?"

What idea did she gots ?

"Cause in district 11, when we work in the fields and someone got a serious cut. We use knife or machete to cauterize the injurie."

I take a swallow of air.

"But we can't do a fire, the smoke will bring the career to us."

She sigh, trying to find an another idea. I tight my teeth, it our only choice. Otherwise, Katniss will... die.

"Okay, we don't have any other choice. Let get some woods." I say, getting up.

"And the career?" Says the girl.

I look at her and respond:

"We should only hurry up then."

She nods, understanding that we don't have an another choice.

The blade of the knife his finally red, I hold my breath. We need to speed up.

Rue took off the bandage and clean up the shoulder of Katniss. She didn't have any reaction. I begin to think that... I'm gonna to lost her. She will die...

"Okay, hold her. We don't know, she can maybe wake up."

I hope; I think.

She put the knife on the cut and she removes just before the skin can stick with the knife. An expression of pain covers her face for a second then fade away.

"Okay, know we need to move."

Rue get a backpack and try to turn off most of the fire. I put back the t-shirt of Catnip. I take her in my arms and we finally run together.

When the night finally starts to come, we arrive in a cave. It a perfect place to stay. After we ate and drank, I say:

"I can get to first guard, if you want?"

"But... did you sleep last night?"

I nod it not completely a lied but not the truth either.

"I could wake you at dawn if you want?"

"Yeah, let's do that. Because I know you need to sleep too. You have a bad face."

I laugh a little and give her one of the sleeping bag.

"Thanks, I guess."

She laughs too and I put Katniss in the other sleeping bag.

"Good night Rue." I murmur in the dark night.

"Good night Gale and thanks for all."

I smile even if she can't see me. This moment would be almost perfect... if we're not in the games. Fighting for our lives and if Katniss would be not between life and death. I need her so much. I miss her gray eyes, her voice, her smile, her kiss... I take the girl in my arms, hugging her. 

"I love you and I always will." 

Dawn was almost coloring the sky and I heard many footsteps. I put Katniss down and get up then walk outside. My only defense is my knife, wow. I follow the noise, being very careful.

I see Glimmer fighting a boy who is twice her weight. He is from district four. She tries to defend herself the best she could, but it harder than it seems. I can't stay there, doing nothing I thought! She is maybe a career, but no one need to deserve this death. So I run toward the boy and pin him on the ground. Taking by surprise, he lets go the girl and try to push me away; but he fails. I punch him in the jaw until my hands hurt.

I feel a hand on my shoulder and I breathe heavily, then turn around.

"Let me finish him." Murmur the blond girl.

I get up from the boy and she shot an arrow between the eyes of the boy. Yes, she has arrows and the bow. His canon shout, immediately. The girl turns and looks at me in the eyes.

"Why did you do that?" She asks.

"I don't really know..."

Maybe, because is was unjust. A boy take advantage from a girl?

"Well, thank you."

"Welcome."

She took of her bow and I think that she is gonna to shoot me. But, she gives it to me with the arrows. I take it and asks:

"Why?"

"I don't really know..." She responds, like me earlier.

She smiles and I do the same. I don't know what game she is playing, but she will not get me like this. Glimmer approach me and kiss my cheek. What is she doing?!

"See you soon, I guess." She murmurs near me.

"I guess." I respond with a wink.

If she wants to play seductively, I will bite her at her own game. The girl smiles a last time and disappear into the woods.

What the hell just happened?
