As I sat in the hole behind the couch… I couldn’t help but let my mind wander. Of the things that had happened… Kara joining our little band… James attacking her… him looking for me… I couldn’t help but wonder why. I mean, why would he take interest in me? I am just a regular old human, what is so special about me that he would hunt me down?

The front door opened. I held my breath as they walked in front of the couch. Please don’t move this, please don’t move this… I wished over and over again in my head.

So of course he moved it.

“Jamie?” I heard a smooth voice ask. James.

“Why do you care?” I whined, inching as far back as I could into the hiding spot.

“Because Jamie… I care about you.” James said; his voice quiet. I looked up at him. He smiled at me, hesitantly. It would have been really cute if his mouth wasn’t full of pointed teeth. I smiled back.

          “Really?” I asked.

“Yes.” He answered. “Would you like to come with me to the castle?” James’s asked.

“I’d love to.”I answered. He held out his hand, and I took it. He helped me out of the hole, and I stood up straight. He was a little bit taller than me, but that was fine with me. He smiled.

“You are so beautiful…” he said, gazing down at me. I blushed.

“Thank you.” I said awkwardly. He laughed.

“Oh my god Jamie…” He said, before picking me up bridal style.

“Hey!” I said, laughing as he lifted me off into the night sky. “To the castle?” I asked.

“TO THE CASTLE!” James repeated, laughing. He took off faster, and soon we were flying right towards the castle.

“Look out James! Window!” I screamed, but James just laughed and flew right into the window, but nothing happened. We went right through it. He dropped me to the floor. “Hey!” I said, getting up. “You can’t just drop me on the floor!” He laughed.

“I am sorry malady.” He said, smiling. I thwacked him upside the head.

“You better be.” I told him smiling. “I have an idea!” I said, grinning.

          “What is it?” James asked.

“Let’s play hide and seek! You try to find me!” I said, laughing as I ran away. I heard his voice behind me, but I didn’t care, I was going to win. I looked up and saw the rafters. I jumped and caught one. I swung myself up onto it, and then continued to climb higher until I couldn’t anymore. I bent down so I would be hard to see. I laughed delightedly. I hadn’t had this much fun in years, except when I saw Sami slap Tristan and Kyle. I stopped laughing.

I had left them. They didn’t know where I was.

          Great.

          I heard James down below.

“Come on Jamie… come on out.” He said, smiling. I laughed and he looked up, then grinned.

“Found you!” He said, his wings extending he flew up to my perch and tackled me in a hug. I laughed and I looked him in the eyes. He looked back at me.

I felt fire run through my body. I felt like all the bones in my body were breaking. I bent in unnatural places, I jerked back and forth.

“Jamie?!?!” James cried out. He flew me to the ground, where my body gave one last jerk and I felt the world starting to slip away.

“JAMIE!” James cried out, tears spilling down his face… I knew what Tristan was going to go through when he got his wings… I knew everything now… I lifted my hand and placed in on James’s face, a tear streaking down my own. And I said one final word.

“Tristan…” before the world turned black forever.
