I reached my front door and sighed. I don't want to go in. I looked up at the sky.
"Please don't make me go in?" I begged then opened the door and headed inside. The lights were off and the computer in the living room so either she wasn't home or she was asleep. I snuck upstairs quietly and peeked my head into her bedroom, clear.
I sighed and ran down to the living room. I turned on the computer, then headed into the kitchen. I popped two pop tarts into the toaster and poured myself some water from the fridge. Placing the water down a leaned over the keyboard and quickly typed Facebook into the URL. I ran back into the kitchen and stood there awkwardly waiting for my pop tarts. Once they were done, I rushed them into the living room and laid them down. I had two new friend requests, I couldn't help but hope for Cole's name.
Charlotte and Ian?! I knew Charlotte would send me a request but I just met that annoying kid, Ian. Whatever, I accepted both quickly and start eating my poptart and scrolling through facebook.
After a while I heard a car door open outside, I quickly logged out of facebook and closed the tabs. I ran over to the couch, pop tarts in hand and flipped on the tv.
My mom opened the door and set down her person, heading straight for her computer.
"Hey, honey." She gave me a half wave then started messing with her computer.
"Hi, mom" I grumbled back, flipping through the channels. She looked up quickly like she had just remember to do something.
"How was your first day of school?" she stared at me with her fake sincerity burning in her eyes.
"Fine" I gave her another grumbled answer and refused to look at her.
"Make any new friends?" She stopped looking at me and started shuffling through some papers on her desk.
"Yep." I rolled my eyes at her and shot her an annoyed look.
"Good for you, Is this my drink or yours?" She looked down at the cup I had forgotten over there. Shit!
"Mine." I got up and grabbed it, rushing it to the kitchen.
"Were you on my computer?" her voice turned into a growl.
"No, I just sat there to do my homework." I kept my voice calm, I had learned how to manipulate people from her.
"You had homework on the first day?" She crossed her arms, her tone snarky and riddled with doubt. I grabbed my backpack from the door and took out a notebook with an assignment from last year. She seemed satisfied with that and went back to her work.
I spent the rest of the evening texting Charlotte, she had given her number to me earlier that day. Eventually we ran out of things to talk about and I decided to take a shower.
The warm water was so relaxing as I thought about the day. What had happened to me around Cole? It was like I lost control of myself and my emotions had taken control. Whatever happened it couldn't happen again, I would just have to avoid being alone with him. He wouldn't make a room around people. Would he? I got out and checked my phone. Two new texts, the first one from Charlotte.
"Hey, I'm soooo sorry, Cole texted me asking for your number and I didn't know what to do so I gave it to him, but told him to leave us alone."
I texted her back quickly that it was okay and that I doubted he would actually text me anyway, but I didn't believe that. I saw the second text was from an unknown number and I knew it must be Cole.
"It's Cole, Is this Elizabeth or did that bitch give me a fake number again?" Did he really just call my best friend a bitch? I put on my pajamas and shoved the phone in my pocket without texting back. Charlotte never texted me back so I assumed she was busy.
I went into my room, downstairs and laid in bed, staring at my drum set across the room. I laid there for 30 minutes before giving up on sleep. I couldn't stop thinking of Cole. I decided to text back that idiot and get on to him for calling Charlotte a bitch.
"Don't call Charlotte a bitch!" I laid my phone down on the bed and walked over to my make-up stand and put on my usual, mascara, eyeshadow, lip gloss, and blush. Doing my make-up always helped me relax. My phone buzzed and I finished up then went over and checked it.
So, this is the right number. You want to meet up and finish what we started?" I don't know if I do or not.
"Can't, not allowed out this late." It felt like forever before the phone buzzed again.
"Sneak out, I'm at the school. You coming?" Why the hell was he at the school?! It was in walking distance though and it would be rude to stand him up. No! I said I wouldn't be alone with him again. Oh, screw it! No sex though, okay!?
"Yeah, let me get dressed." I slid on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, forgetting to wash off my make-up. I grabbed my jacket and peeked my head out of the bedroom.
I didn't see mom, she probably went to bed. As I was unlocking the front door, my phone buzzed again.
"Hurry up!" I shoved the phone back in my pocket, I'm sneaking out for him, the least he could do is be polite. I quietly shut the door behind me and breathed in the cool night air. I took off in a sprint down the road, I didn't live far from the school at all. My house sat on a little street right behind one of the storage buildings on campus.
I ran around the storage building and looked around. This was a small town so the high school and junior high campus only had three buildings and they were fairly small. I pulled out my phone and texted him, quickly.
"I'm here, idiot!" I heard a ring and then a voice from beside the main building,
"I know you're here and was idiot really necessary?" Cole slowly walked out of the shadows then motioned for me to follow him.
"Yes, it was!" I hissed at him in the darkness but followed him anyway. He lead me to a few steps going down to a small area with a dull lamp light overtop. I walked down the stairs with him and noticed a metal door at the end of the area.
He pulled something out of his pocket and told me to shine the light on the door knob. He quickly picked the lock and opened the door.
"Lady's first" He gave me that mischievous smile, that gave me a bad feeling.
"I'm not breaking into the school!" I whisper yelled at him. Was he crazy?! What if we got caught?!
"Oh, come on!" He stepped in, then pulled me in and shut the door.
"Dude! What the hell!?" This room had just a little more light than outside but it was kinda hot.
"Relax. It would have been stupid to stay out there and freeze our butts off, when we can go in here" He looked around at the room, "Besides, I come here all the time." I wanted to walk right out the door but I knew he would be mad. Besides, a side of me wanted to stay, to give up being good and break all the rules for just one night and that side was stronger than I thought.
