Chapter 8: What Happened?

Miranda: Carrie? Carrie please wake up.

I could hear Miranda crying.

Miranda: This is all my fault. I should have never offered to let her ride the tractor. Doctor, she's gonna be okay right?

Doctor: We aren't sure. It's too early to determine her state. She's breathing fine right now which is good but we still need a brain scan to determine if she has any head trauma.

Miranda: Oh my gosh..this is horrible...

Miranda was crying really loud. She was on her knees, sobbing into her hands. My eyes began to open and I started to wake up. All I could see was white.

Carrie: Mir-Miranda.

I called Miranda's name very faintly. She couldn't hear me.

Carrie: M-Mir-an-da.

Miranda lifted her hands from her face and looked up at me in the hospital bed.

Miranda: Carrie? You're awake! Oh my gosh I'm so happy..

She gave me a giant hug with tears still rolling down her face. I tried to hug her back but I was too weak.

Miranda: Are you okay? How do you feel? Does your head hurt?

Carrie: M-Miranda, Where am..I? Why..are..you crying?

Miranda: You're in the hospital, Carrie. We were at the farm earlier and I let you ride the tractor. You pressed the gas too hard and you flew off the back. You hit your head really hard on the ground and you were having trouble breathing so I called 911 and now you're here.

She was still sobbing.

Miranda: I was so worried. It's all my fault. I should have never volunteered to teach you how to ride it. You wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for me...I feel so guilty..

She laid her head in my lap and began to cry uncontrollably.

Carrie: Miranda...it isn't..your fault..it's mine. Don't feel guilty...I--I'm-o-okay. I'm going to be okay.

Miranda: I hope so...they're gonna do a brain scan soon to make sure there's no brain damage or internal bleeding.

Carrie: I feel....okay.

Miranda: Oh Carrie, I'm so so sorry..I didn't mean for this to happen. I'll never be able to live with this...

The door swung open and the doctor came in.

Doctor: Hi Miranda. Oh she's awake, that's a great sign! Hi Carrie..how are you feeling?

Carrie: I'm feeling okay...I'm a little weak and my head still hurts...

Doctor: Alright well it's time to wheel you into the brain scan room. We are gonna scan your brain to make sure there are no blockages, hemorrhages, or any other abnormalities okay?

Carrie: Okay doctor..thank..you...

The doctor wheeled me out of the room. There was white everywhere I looked..I was scared..

Miranda picked up her phone and called Brad.

Miranda: Hey Brad, it's Miranda.

Brad: Hey, what's up?

Miranda: Earlier today Carrie and I were on the farm and she rode my tractor and had an accident.
