Molly's POV
We stop abruptly and I am grateful. We've been walking for a long time, and I can't see a thing, so I've been tripping over almost everything. The blindfold is gently lifted from my eyes and I blink at the slight change of lighting. My jaw drops at the sights around me.
We have traveled to a whole new village.Heads turn our way as Alex has his blindfold removed. Hands grab my wrists once again and we are shoved forward. At least we can see.
As we walk, people continue to watch us. I pick up people's whispers.
"New immortals?"
"I bet one of them is an angel."
"Ha! Some excuse for immortals. They look pretty soft to me."
"Speak for yourself! You say that every time new ones come in!"
"That girl. She has such a light aura."
I tune out the voices and lift my chin, stretching my spine as I walk. I may as well show some pride in the presence of new people. I need to show that I'm strong.
We continue past the vast amount of people and homes into a large clearing with several more people, swinging large swords through the air. Training, it seems like.
The hands around my wrists are gone instantly, but they press against my back and shove me forward. Alex and I walk into the clearing and every pair of eyes is suddenly on us. A strong, deep voice rings out from behind me, but I resist the urge to turn around."We have two new immortals," the voice says. But I'm not an angel. Or an immortal. "Please show them proper respect as we teach them their powers." I glance over at Alex and we are shoved forward again.
I finally lose patience and whip around to see who is tugging me along like a puppet. Stunning green eyes meet mine as I stand before a tall boy with black hair and a fierce expression, which melts into friendliness. I keep the scowl on my face because there is no way I'm falling for these people's reassurances. They kidnapped me."I... I'm sorry," he mutters. His words paint his cheeks a light pink. He reaches out to grab my arm, but I yank it away reflexively. I'm not letting him touch me again. "I'm Zack."
Silence stretches between us; I'm not speaking to these people unless I'm being forced.
He clears his throat. "Well, I'll be your training partner for the time being," he announces. I hold back a frustrated shout. No! I can't let these people train me because of their stupid, inaccurate facts!I speak for the first time. "I'm not training unless I get to train with Al- my friend," I grumble, choosing not to say his name in case it comes to haunt us later.
He nods curtly. "Alright, I'll see what I can do. You should rest for now." He reaches out and tries to brush the hair out of my eyes, but I raise my hand and smack his away in a swift motion.
"Don't touch me," I growl with tears in my eyes. "You've done enough to me and my friends already."
"You're right," he says, raising his voice slightly. "I've brought you here so that you know how to control your powe-"
"I don't have powers!" I exclaim, cutting him off.
"Then how do you explain the note you read earlier?" he spits back. "You were able to read it, weren't you? That means you're an angel or a demon. I'm not that dumb. That's how most angels get into this control camp, and demons aren't allowed. You have to be an angel." He crosses his arms over his chest.
"Where am I staying?" I demand. I don't want anything else to do with this guy unless I absolutely have to do something.
"You and your friend are staying in cabins. Follow me," he says. And, as if against our own wills, Alex and I trudge along behind Zack.We arrive at two small houses that remind me so much of my own village. My throat threatens to constrict, but I swallow back the tears before they make it to my eyes and avoid meeting anyone's eyes. After a moment, Zack walks away, leaving Alex and I.
"Which cabin would you like?" I ask. It comes out so formally.
"It doesn't matter to me," he replies, and so I walk into the one on the right as he walks into the left one.It is pretty basic inside; a bed large enough for one person, and a spare mattress strategically placed in the corner of the room so it doesn't take up too much space. There is a desk in another corner, and in he center of the room, there is a table that comes with four chairs. I sigh and sit in one of the chairs, pulling the metal container out of my pocket, where I had stuffed it before we were taken away. I pull out Alex's emerald pendant and sigh. I'll give it to him later. I take my sapphire one next, looking at it for a moment before summoning Starlight. She bounces to life before me and shakes out her snowy white fur. She looks up at me and I realize that her eyes are a deep, deep yellow; they are pretty much a muddy brown.
Starlight looks around before her gaze settles on my eyes. "Where are we?" she asks in her soft voice. I shrug my shoulders, indicating that I have no clue. She tilts her head for a moment before laying her ears back.
"I feel darkness here," she squeaks. I reach out a hand and she slowly walks over. When she reaches me, she leaps into my lap and curls up into a ball. She's asleep within minutes. I gently pick her up and put her on the bed so that she can sleep. I return to my seat and stare out the window, tears building up in my eyes and blurring my vision. Reality sinks in and I fully realize that I just got taken from my home. My brother doesn't know where I am. And Mom-
Mom. I cough and it turns into a small sob as her red hair- which matches mine so amazingly- and her soft gray eyes. Her extremely pale skin and small frame. With my brother being the only one with her at home, they must be struggling. I regret everything I said to her in her office doorway.
The more I think about her, the larger the lump in my throat gets. Finally, I release a sob, letting the lump out and unleashing a stream of tears. I admit defeat as I rest my head in the edge of the table, squeezing my eyes shut and trying to slow the tears. I let out sob after sob, and soon my throat is dry and scratchy. But I just keep crying.Alex's POV
I sigh after a while. Sitting on the bed is not a good way to spend my time. I glance through a window and see Molly's cabin wall. Pushing my chair under the table, I start towards my door and walk to her little house. Before knocking on her door, I hesitate and listen. Sobs come from the inside and claw at my heart. I take a deep breath and my fist gently connects with the door. The cries grow slightly louder and after a moment, the door is open and Molly is standing there, tears streaming down her face. She grabs my arm and pulls me inside, and I close the door behind me.She sniffles and wipes the tears off of her cheeks, letting go of me. "I don't know what to do," she whispers shakily. "We were just taken from-"
I hush her and take her hands in mine. She avoids my eyes.
"Molly, please look at me," I murmur. After a moment, she looks into my eyes. "You are my best friend. I couldn't ask for a better friendship with anyone else. We have to stick together. We can get through this." I squeeze one of her hands, and her eyes seem to brighten, though the frown stays on her face. She lets go of one of my hands and reaches into her pocket. "You might want this," she tells me, dropping something into my palm gently. I look down and see the emerald gem. I smile a little and meet her eyes again.
"Thanks," I say. She nods, and I let go of her hands.
"I'm going to go," I decide. "Sorry for the short visit. I just wanted to see you." She nods and sighs. I look into her dark brown eyes, crystallized with tears, for a second longer before rushing out of the door and to my own cabin.
I will not let this break my best friend.

A/N: Aww! Looks like Alex is sworn to protect his best friend!
Anyways, I wanted to say that I might start another story soon! (I'm not telling very many people at the moment... I have two followers and, like, three reads or something?) It will be like this story, but all of the characters will be in high school. I'm thinking about that. It sounds fun!
Thanks for taking he time to read this!
