Molly's POV
"As soon as Molly isn't too tired, we need to get Bella and get out of here," The Dreaming Wanderer explains as Alex clasps my hand in his. "Your father is still being held captive." I wince because of her words, and Alex squeezes my hand reassuringly. I squeeze back as a thank you.
"S-so, when I'm better, we'll leave?" I croak. She nods, and I let out a breath of air that I didn't know I was holding. "Okay. I-I'm just tired. We can go when you're ready."
"I'm not ready until your energy is back," she says. "We need you at your best. The journey will take a lot out of you as it is. You need the extra energy."
"I'm not that tired," I retort, desperately needing to see my father, dead or alive.
"Come to me when you're completely awake," she says calmly before walking out of the cabin. I sigh heavily and drop my head onto something soft. I glance over to see Alex's shoulder, and heat starts creeping to my cheeks. I keep my head on his shoulder and adjust myself stiffly. Alex doesn't seem to notice.
"I just want to find my dad," I whimper.
"I know," he sighs. "We're gonna find him."
"Alex, I don't even know if he's alive!" I cry, tears falling from my eyes. "I haven't seen him in ten years!"
He wraps an arm around my shoulders, running his hand up and down my arm. "You'll find out soon," he murmurs. "It's okay." His voice seems to be a mere buzz to my ears. "Molly."
"W-what?" I sniffle.
"How did we meet?" he asks softly.
"I ran into the forest," I reply, not wanting to finish.
"Why were you in the forest?" he presses. I sigh hesitantly.
"Because I-I thought he was d-dead," I whisper, tears falling faster. "H-he was dead."
"Do you wish you hadn't met me?" he asks.
"N-no," I sigh.
"So something good came of this," he mumbles. "You're okay."
"Y-you should be a counselor," I say quietly, scooting closer to him. He laughs softly and rests his cheek on my head. I'm instantly grateful; we've been friends for such a long time that a position like this isn't awkward.
"Thank you, Alex," I whisper before closing my eyes and drifting into a deep sleep.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"Alright," The Dreaming Wanderer says, handing Alex and I a bag. It look ordinary, but I know what it is. It has to be an infinity pouch, like the one she used earlier. You can store anything and everything in an infinity pouch. The first time she used it, I stared at it in disbelief.
"What's that?" I asked.
"An infinity pouch," she replied. "You can store almost anything in it. You'll get one for yourself when your energy has regenerated."
Now, I stare at the infinity pouch in my hand. Alex looks at his, too, wonder in his gaze. He doesn't know what the infinity pouch can do.
"This can hold anything in it?" he asks skeptically. To answer, The Dreaming Wanderer slips a long blade into her tiny bag. It seems to disappear into the pouch, and his eyes go wide. I smile at his reaction and start packing my own belongings into my pouch; nonperishable food, clothing, bandages, a few blankets, and maps. I adjust my bow in its normal position, the string stretching across my chest and the rest of it caressing my back.
Alex starts packing as well, and I take an outfit out and walk to the closet to get dressed. I walk out in the black sweater and gray jeans, combat boots still on my feet. I put my previous outfit into the infinity pouch and tighten the rope before slipping it onto my wrist.
I look up to see Alex struggling with his own bag. I smile, shaking my head, and walk to him. I take his pouch from him and grab the blade that he's trying to fit into the small hole. I put it in with ease and drop the bag back into his hands. He glances from the bag to me with wide eyes before meeting my eyes and smiling. I roll my eyes, grinning.
"It's not rocket science," I laugh.
"Oh, come on," he scoffs. "I know that. I just had slight struggles."
"Slight," I emphasize. He rolls his eyes.
"You would have the same struggles if you had to put your bow into one of these things," he says.
"That's different!" I exclaim. "That's way bigger than a thin blade!"
"Oh, stop bickering, you two!" The Dreaming Wanderer giggles. I smile and turn away from Alex.
"Hey," Alex laughs. "My friend just got possessed by a demon. I missed teasing her." I turn back around and smack his arm before walking to the table and sitting in a wooden chair. He squeaks when I smack him, and I smile as I rest my feet on the table.
"This is something that my mother would scream at me for," I giggle. Alex lets out a light laugh, one that I haven't heard in what seems like ages. A fuzzy, warm feeling comes over me, and my heart tingles. An unidentifiable feeling pokes at the back of my head, taunting me by sitting just where I can't reach it and give it a name. I furrow my eyebrows in spite of myself, determined to get to the feeling and figure out why it makes me feel like this.
"Molly?" The Dreaming Wanderer says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Huh?" I ask.
"I asked if you missed Alex while you were in another body," she chuckles. I feel blush creeping up my neck, and red is blotched on Alex's face as well.
"I-I was kinda unconscious when I was in that body," I laugh nervously. She snorts and turns away to continue packing things.
"Just a random question here," I start. "Do you have your eyes on anyone? Surely you've met someone on your adventures."
"I don't have time for feelings like that at the moment," The Dreaming Wanderer replies. "Why do you bring it up?"
"I don't really know," I reply. "It just came to mind."
"I see," she responds nonchalantly, though there is a light teasing behind her voice. I tilt my head in confusion.
Someone shoves me suddenly, and I squeal, falling off of the chair. The Dreaming Wanderer jerks her head around to look, and I turn to see Alex, laughing like a madman. I smirk and stand, running up to him. I leap onto him and shriek, and he staggers backwards, slamming into the wall. He falls to the ground, and I slip down with him. I laugh, the tingling feeling coming back as he leans against the wall. I end up in his lap, and blush creeps up his neck. I think nothing of it as I stand and give him my hand, helping him stand. The Dreaming Wanderer laughs in her corner, still packing things into her pouch. I smack Alex's arm before letting go of his hand. He chuckles softly, and the fuzzy feeling envelopes my heart. I quirk an eyebrow, and I know that one of my goals is to find out what this feeling is.
After all, it is confusing me. I'm determined to get rid of it so that it doesn't annoy me anymore.
