Molly's POV
As I swim back into consciousness, my hood is thrown back over my head by the man who carries me. I groan at my aching body. What did he do to me?
I gasp as I am thrown from his grip, and it morphs into a scream as I slam against a wall, crumpling to the ground.
"I think you'll approve of your little roommate," he growls. A door slams shut, and I listen to my own ragged breathing, cringing from the pain.
"Why are you... here?" a struggling voice chokes out.
"I was trying to save my father," I whisper, wincing as I push myself into a sitting position. "They took me away from my f-friends."
"I'm sorry... to hear that." Despite the struggle, his voice sounds warm.
"What's your name?" I ask.
"I'm not... allowed to say."
"Oh. I'm... my name is Molly."
I feel his gaze on me now. "W-what's your last name?"
I squint in confusion. "Reynolds?"
He goes quiet for a very long time, and I don't attempt to fill the silence, being too downhearted to try.
"Molly?" he finally asks.
"Yes?"
"What was your mother's name?"
"Kelly."
"...Father?"
"Jack."
"Is Jack...?"
"He's alive, in this camp. I'm looking for him."
I hear several grunts and moans of pain, and I look over to see the man dragging himself over to me. His tangled black hair is short, and when he looks up, I see that his eyes are a startlingly familiar dark brown.
When he gets to me, he reaches out with a trembling hand. "There's no way," he breathes. "Molly?"
I tilt my head, confused. But after a moment, my eyes widen in realization. Black hair, so much like Cole's. Brown eyes and pale skin like my own.
"Daddy?"
Alex's POV
"Adrianna, I think she's got it," I murmur as Nikki lashes out with her scythe. The person scrambles out of the way, only to be stopped by magic.
"I think you're right," she breathes.
"Dreaming Wanderer, we're heading up," I call. She nods, and Adrianna and I sprint through the gate. Morte rushes over to help Wes and Nikki.
"No!" An unfamiliar feminine voice shrieks. It must be the person that Nikki is fighting. The noises of their battle fade as Adrianna and I stomp up the stairs, swords in hand. I reach up and wipe the sweat from my brow. We both breathe heavily.
"Keep your guard up," I pant. "They're sure to have more defenses up here."
"I know."
We continue to run up, following the lightness of Molly's soul. My legs begin to burn, my lungs desperate for more air, but I ignore it.
"Alex," Adrianna says after a long time. "We... need to rest for a minute."
I open my mouth to object, but I close it when I stop and realize how numb my legs are from running.
"I can't believe we're this tired already," Adrianna sighs as we sink to the ground.
"I know," I murmur. "We trained and built our endurance up. We should've been able to go much longer than this."
