Molly's POV
I wake up to the sound of light tapping. I look at the door and stand, opening it to see a young girl with a blonde braid. She looks to be about five years of age. Behind her, a man with brown hair stands, his hands gently resting on her shoulders. The little girl grins up at me, and I give her the small smile that I've been giving everyone else.
"Zack and Penny had clothes made for you and your friend," she says quietly. "My sister is delivering his now." She holds out the basket that she has in her arms. My smile grows a tiny bit, and I take the basket of clothes.
"Thank you," I say. "I appreciate it." And I honestly do. I'm still not happy about being kidnapped, but it doesn't seem quite as bad when you think about the hospitality at this camp. The little girl gives me another smile and turns to the man, who is gazing up at the sky. After a moment, the girl reaches up and tugs on his hand. He looks down at her, snapping back into reality, and gently grabs her hand. He gives me a small smile before turning with the girl and walking onto the pathway. They stop, and a young girl with straight auburn hair approaches them a moment later- six or seven years old. I am still smiling softly as they walk away together.
I finally shift the basket in my arms and shut the cabin door. I put the basket on the table and look through the clothes. There seem to be four outfits- a baby blue dress that seems to be floor-length, a black t-shirt and black jeans, a purple blouse similar to the one I was wearing when I arrived here and a pair of white leggings, and a hooded black sweater with gray pants. My original outfit- a white, off-shoulder blouse and shorts- is tucked away at the bottom. I smile a tiny bit. At least the care about me enough to supply me with clothes.
I walk into the closet and change into the black shirt and matching jeans. I slip my combat boots onto my feet as well.
As I am stepping out of the closet, there is another knock at my door. I pick up my necklace and my bow before opening the door. Zack, Gavin, and Alex stand there. Alex and Gavin seem to be seething with anger. I grab my sheath of arrows, step outside, and close my cabin door behind me, walking next to Alex and behind the escorts. I nudge him with my elbow, giving him a "what happened?" look, but he just shakes his head, as if to say "I'll tell you later." I nod.
We arrive at the training area, and there is something different about the grassy clearing. There aren't as many training dummies as there normally are. I look at Penny, who seems to be much better than she has been because of her sickness. "Why are there less dummies today?" I ask as we walk toward her.
"Today, we aren't going to work on physical training," she replies. "We are working on your powers today."On the outside, I stay very still, but I mentally stiffen. The word 'powers' still makes me uncomfortable.
"Now, since you are two different species, you will be training separately," Xavier says, walking up from behind Penny. She nods, not looking back to see him.
"Different species?" I ask quietly. I always knew, somewhere, that Alex isn't an angel. But if he isn't an angel, then what is he?
"You're an angel," Penny replies simply, looking at me, "and he's a Wolf Ancestor."This time, I visibly tense up. "He is?" I ask, glancing over at Alex.
"Yes," Penny says. "It seems as if he's kept his secret well. I suppose you learned from your father." She looks at Alex, and I follow her gaze. Alex shifts his feet uncomfortably, not speaking."Now, then," Penny says. "We will let you train with your own escorts, but there are others that can help." I must look confused, because she looks at me and speaks again. "Zack will be training you, and Gavin will help train Alex. But they will each have a feminine helper. The other escorts specialize in training for your race, which will be helpful. Not only that, but it provides an extra hand for your original escorts."
"That makes more sense," I murmur. She nods.
"Xavier and I have other initiates to help, so we will be getting them to their cabins," Penny sighs.
"What are they like?" I ask instantly. My normal curiosity flows through me.
"Two sisters," Penny says. "One who is ten years old and one who is thirteen." She frowns. "We may need to get help to calm them. The ten-year-old is frightened, and her sister can't calm her down."
"What are their names?" I continue.
"The young one is named Jade, and her sister's name is Ruby," she answers. "They must have been named after gems. They are Tiger Ancestors."Tiger Ancestors. There are tiger-people who live in a village close to ours. Their ancestors are like ours; they are the people who are distantly related to the first of their species. They are gifted with special tiger abilities; likewise, Wolf Ancestors are gifted with wolf abilities.
"Okay," I say before following Zack to the other side of the clearing. I stare at the back of his head, still wondering how I could have gotten here in the first place.
Soon, my mind drifts back to Jade and Ruby. I wonder how they got here, and questions start to swim in my head, overtaking the rest of my thoughts. Were they taken out of their homes? Kidnapped, like Alex and I? Did they get to speak to their family before leaving? Did they know it would happen, or were they unaware, like Alex and I were? Did they know they had such cases advanced powers? I know that some people don't tell their children about their powers until about thirteen to fifteen years of age. Then again, some are told at three years old. Of course, Jade and Ruby had to have known about heir regular abilities. For example, these tiger-people can transform into tigers as easily as I can turn into a wolf.
Zack stops abruptly, and I do the same just before smacking into his back and tumbling to the ground. He turns to look at me, and while his facial expression is serious, there is laughter in his eyes because of my close encounter. I try not to glare at him as I step back.
"So, who is my other trainer?" I ask.
"A girl named Maddie," he replies. "She should be here soon. Until then, you can practice shooting or sit back and relax." He sighs. "Remember what I told you. Feel free to confide in me."
He swiftly turns to the side, staring intently at the larger cabins that were built to hold more than one person. I sit in the grass, letting the greenery act as a cushion for my aching fingers as I drop my bow next to me. I lay my hands on the soft grass and lean back, letting the sun's rays caress my face as I wait for the training to begin.
