Molly's POV
I sit in my cabin, my muscles slightly aching from the training I've done today. I stare out the window, where the sun is sinking beneath the trees and painting the sky with streaks of pink, orange, yellow, and blue.
I always used to watch the sunsets with Dad, and then with Alex, when Dad was gone.
I guess I stopped doing it at some point in my childhood, because I think I forgot how beautiful it is.
The cabin door squeaks quietly, as though someone is trying to open it slowly. I know who it is instantly, and a smirk rises to my face. Payback time.
As they approach, I take a deep breath and let it out slowly, and the footsteps falter, but instantly start back up again. Oh, yes. This is definitely who I think it is.
Just before they make it to the chair that I'm sitting in, I speak. "Care to explain why you're in my cabin, Alex?"
An annoyed sigh can be heard, and I turn with a small smirk to see Alex, clearly upset with his failed attempt to scare me. "Payback, my friend," I say, tapping my ear. "You're not the only one with wolf hearing."
"But you're so fun to scare," he whines. "You scream like a little girl."
"Funny how how you say that as you're talking to the little girl," I say. "That's not offensive in any way, shape, or form to me."
"Okay, then you scream like a man," he chuckles.
"Still not offensive," I say in a light tone. "I'd stop before you offend yourself."
"Hey! My teasing doesn't affect me!" he exclaims. I stand and face him.
"Is that so?" I ask. "Because you sounded pretty offended there."
"Because you did it, technically!" he retorts, obviously growing impatient. "I mean-" He glares at me. "You can be a pain sometimes." He grins.
"So can you," I reply. And in a moment, we're both chuckling. My smiles are still small.
I can't seem to smile any more than I am already.
"Is there any reason you're here?" I ask. "Of course, other than attempting to scare me."
"I wanted to know if you wanted to come outside and watch the sunset, like we did as kids," he replies, unfazed by my last comment.
"That'd be nice," I sigh. "I just want to get away from reality right now. I still don't know what's happening."
I grab a blanket from my mattress as I walk by, and Starlight follows me out the door. I close it behind us, and instantly wrap the blanket around myself.
We walk alongside each other in silence, and I glance over at the sun. It is hidden by the trees.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask, worried that we'll run out of time.
"Somewhere close," he answers. I nod, and the comfortable quiet resumes.
He leads me up a hill and sits. I sit next to him and gaze to the west, where vibrant colors still streak the sky. It reminds me of my dad. A tiny, sad smile tugs at the corners of my lips.
"Is there any specific reason you wanted to do this?" I ask.
"It's like you said," he explains. "Just an escape from reality. Gives us time to think."
My smile melts away from its sad feeling and becomes genuine. "Just what I need. Thanks for offering."
I see him smiling from the corner of my eye. "You're welcome."
The colors grow darker, and I watch them melt into each other as the sun continues to set. Starlight, who is cuddled up next to me, sleeps peacefully. Thunder is asleep next to her. I gently lift my little wolf and set her on my lap, scratching her ears. She sleeps soundly.
I begin to feel drowsy as the colors disappear into a navy blue. But I doubt I'll be able to sleep without nightmares. Not tonight. They used to come all the time when Dad disappeared. I haven't had one in a while, but today's events have been horrific. So I close my eyes and let sleep overtake me, right here on the hill.
Alex's POV
I glance down at her and see that she has dozed off. She starts to lean backwards in her sleep. I panic and grab her gently before she falls, and lay her head on the grass carefully so she won't get hurt. I also fix the blanket she's used to wrap herself up, seeing as it is tangled. I slowly lean back until I'm lying down, staring at the stars, which have started to twinkle in the soft night sky. Eventually, total darkness comes over me and I fall asleep.

My hair is a tangled mess, roots and dirt making it even worse. I can't move, and it's hard to breathe. Where am I?
I glance up at my wrists to see that I am cuffed to a wall. My ankles are free, but I can't move. I look around, but everything is unfamiliar.
A hooded figure steps out of the shadows and looks at me with piercing eyes; one is red, and the other is green. They remove their hood, and Zack stands before me, his eyes shining with what looks like rage. A crazy smile is on his face. Another person steps into my visual field, removing their hood calmly. Gavin. They look at me, and I stare back. What do they want?
What is happening?
Gavin disappears again and comes back with Alex, his hands cuffed behind his back and his hazel eyes half shut. Fear spreads through me. His clothes seem more tattered and worn than they were before, and there are a few red stains.
Blood?
Zack pulls on a rope, one that I didn't see before, and my father steps forward in the same state that Alex is in. Zack's one green eye closes for a moment, and when he opens it again, there is red swirling in the mass of lime. My heart leaps as Mom and Caleb are tugged into the room as well.
Gavin and Zack pull swords from their sheaths, and my eyes widen in disbelief. They couldn't. They wouldn't.
Gavin smiles, his face resembling Zack's, and brings the sharp blade down on Alex's head, and down his back. I scream and try to run, but the wrist restraints stop me from doing so. My screams grow louder as Zack does the same to my family members. My breaths become quick and short.
I just lost everything.
And I watched it happen.

Molly's POV
"Molly!"
I sit straight up, tears streaming down my face as he calls my name. He's not dead.
"What happened?" he asks, his hazel eyes filled with concern. I try to take deep breaths, but the sobs keep coming.
"I-I... You w-were..." I choke out.
"Molly, it was a nightmare," he whispers, putting his hands on my shoulders. "Just a nightmare."
"A-Alex, t-t-they killed y-you!" I cry.
"I'm okay now," he says reassuringly. "Look. Look at me. I'm here. It was just a nightmare."
I nod.
He's here. It was just a nightmare.
It just so happens everything didn't just sift right through your fingers. Everything is okay.
Why did I have that nightmare?
