"How could you?!" Jonathan bursted out from the closet door.
I took a cautious step back. He saw it. I already knew it.
He saw the kiss, heard the talk and could probably smell his brother's scent on me.
"I'm sorry," I said, knowing I hurt him.
He just shook his head. "It's not your fault. It's my parents. Your parents. They want you and my brother to start a new pack... this is their fault. You did what you had to do."
Though a part of me agreed that this situation wasn't exactly how I'd planned, I knew I hurt his feelings by kissing another man-- his brother-- right in front of him. My mate.
I walked to the bathroom and washed my face, my neck and my hands using soap, and went back into my room. I turned to Jonathan
"I wiped off every part he touched me. I didn't enjoy it. Nothing is between us," I said. It was the truth. I didn't want to play with Donovan's feelings but my heart truly went to Jonathan. So did my wolf.
Jonathan looked at me, and nodded. "I hope so,"
I went up behind him and touched his shoulder. "I'm sorry for doing what I did back there. I shouldn't -- I shouldn't have touched him the way I did. It was wrong. I should've just stepped back."
Jonathan slowly turned around. "It's okay," he said quietly, looking past my shoulder. "I can still smell him on you... Cameron doesn't like it," His wolf had great sense of smell. But then again, don't we all?
So I went to the closet, and this time, I changed into a loose t-shirt and pyjama pants.
"There," I said, smiling. I didn't want him to doubt our relationship.
"What you said to him-- was it all true?"
My first response was to tell him it was all a lie, but then he might think I was using his brother and he might think I was just toying with them.
So I took a deep breath and answered honestly, "Donovan is not my mate. Yes, we are in an arranged marriage, and we would be married in a few months. And I am giving a chance. I don't want to fake everything. It's not right. I would feel guilty, acting like I love him, but I don't." I couldn't seem to add anything more to what I said, so I just looked at him.
"Will you kiss him again?" He asked. I just wanted for run to Jonathan and hug him, telling him not to worry, but I can't. This was too stressful for me.
So instead, I dodged his question and asked. "Why don't we just tell your parents we are mates? Maybe they would understand, and find another mate for Donovan while I can stay here with you,"
He shook his head, his face looking more and more upset each second. "They won't understand. They never listen to us. If we told them," he sighed and ran his fingers though his hair. "Then we might never see each other again. My parent... They're not real mates. They were in an arranged marriage, just like how you and Donovan are in now."
"My parents never listen to me either," I said quietly.
Jonathan looked at me. "I know. You wouldn't be here if they had listened." He understood me, knew how uncomfortable it was to know you would be marrying someone you've never met.
A moment of silence filled the room, so he continued. "So my parents never found their true mate. And they won't let us stay together; they would think of you as just another werewolf in their household using their resources. And they would take you back if they found out about us. My parents don't believe in soulmates, and they certainly won't believe us."
When I didn't respond because I couldn't find anything comforting to say, Jonathan stepped closer to me, and wrapped his arms around me.
He buried his nose on my neck and mumbled, "Do you know how hard it was for me to stay hidden in your closet while I saw my brother kissing you on your bed? Do you know that I wanted to run up to you, and rip his hands off you?"
I nodded, feeling guilty for my actions. My wolf Crystal was cursing in my head nonstop. "I'm sorry. I'll try to prevent that from happening again, but I can't guarantee it; your parents would want us to make progress,"
He just squeezed me tighter. "I don't want any other male touching you like that besides me," he suddenly said, his voice husky. His low voice sent tingling feelings to my lower abdomen.
"I'll try," that was all I could promise him. In our situation now, I couldn't say I wouldn't ever touch or be touched by Donovan.
He kissed my neck softly, his teeth barely grazing my skin, and I tilted my head to a side. "Promise me you'll always choose me, no matter what," Jonathan whispered in my ear.
"I promise," And I did.
