I released Kellin's hand regretfully when the bell rang, feeling my cheeks go hot. He grinned at me, crystal eyes shining.
"So... Your next class is Geometry."
He said, mouth turning down at the corners.
"Not with me. Ah, well. I'll walk you there, then meet you back after class, yeah?"
I nodded. I gathered up my various notebooks and new Chemistry text book, following Kellin out of the room.My Geometry class was just down the hall. Kellin gave me an encouraging smile before turning to walk away. I grabbed his arm.
"Kellin? Thanks. Ya know, for helping with my locker. And finding my classes."
"Of course. You can sit with me at lunch too, if you want."
He grinned, flashing perfect white teeth.
"I definitely will. See you after class."
I said. I watched him walk away, skinny jeans hugging his legs in all the right places. I sighed dreamily before walking into the classroom.I sat in the back of the room again, behind a muscular guy I recognized from Chemistry. He sat in a row with three other guys, all with broad shoulders and husky builds. Class started soon, and I found myself wishing Kellin were here to hold my hand. Instead, I focused on the teacher. He introduced himself as Mr. Ray. He had a mad-scientist look about him, his wiry orange hair standing up at all angles. After a few other kids entered the room, Mr. Ray took role call.
"Victor Fuentes?"
He said later, eyes finding mine.
"Vic,"
I corrected him. He smiled tightly at me, nodding.
"Nice to have you, Vic."
He continued the role call. The boy in front of me turned around, smirking. "Where's your boyfriend?"
He asked.
"What?"
I said. The other boys turned to laugh at me.
"Your boyfriend Kellin, you gay ass faggot. I saw you holding his hand in Chemistry."
I felt myself blush again, thankful for my tan skin.
"He isn't my boyfriend,"
I insisted hotly. The boy chuckled, running his hand through his dark, buzz-cut hair.
"Is that what you said when he fucked your-"
"Shut the fuck up, Bruce."
I turned to see a boy sitting one seat away from me, glaring menacingly. The boy addressed as Bruce sneered.
"I hate to break it to you, Victor, but Kellin's cheating on you with Justin here."
He jammed his meaty thumb at the boy next to me. Justin snorted arrogantly, completely unphased by Bruce's comments.
"Yeah? Well at least I'm not fucking the whole cheerleading team. Tell me, how many STDs have you given away this year? You're a goddamn man whore,"
Justin spat. Bruce's fat cheeks flushed red, and he turned back to face Mr. Ray. The other three jocks turned too.Justin moved to the seat directly next to me.
"I'm sorry about them,"
he mumbled.
"Unfortunately, our school is crawling with fuckboys, most of which are on the football team."
I laughed quietly.
"What's a fuckboy?"
I whispered back. Justin was grinning now.
"Man, you have a lot to learn."
He looked up at the clock at the front of the room.
"What class do you have next?" Glancing at my schedule, I told him,
"I have choir... But Kellin said he'd walk me to it. What do you have?" Justin shook his head.
"Leave it to Kellin to find a choir geek. I have history, but if you're sitting with Kellin at lunch I'll see you then."The bell rang, and I scooped up my things and said a quick goodbye to Justin. Bruce shoved me on his way to the door, and I fell into the recycling bin, spilling paper onto the floor. Mr. Ray glared at the back of Bruce's head. "Go to your next class, I'll pick it up."
I walked out hesitantly into the hallway, grinning hugely when I saw Kellin waiting for me, just as he promised.*****
