~Vic's POV~
As promised, Kellin showed up at exactly six to pick me up. He arrived driving a sleek black Camaro, which I instantly fell in love with. I waved quickly to my mom before climbing in.The interior was even nicer than the exterior.
"Woah,"
I breathed.
"Nice car, Kellin."
He laughed.
"It's my mom's."
I chuckled along with him.
"Why'd you drive here? It's not really chilly, and your house is less than a block away."
He grinned widely at me, putting the car into reverse and backing smoothly out of the driveway.
"Because I thought of something for us to do, but we need the car."
I cocked my head to the side.
"Where are we going?"
"I don't know, Vic. Hey, in the center console there's paper and a pen. Could you grab them?"
I clicked the latch and, sure enough, they were there as he'd promised. Pulling them out, I said,
"Okay, I've got them. What now?"
He took his eyes off the road long enough to smirk at me.
"Do you have a penny?"
I frowned, digging into the pockets of my skinny jeans.
"Uh, yeah. Why?"
We were stopped in front of what I assumed was Kellin's house. I glanced out the window.
"Nice house,"
he rolled his eyes and waved dismissively at me.
"You can go first. Flip the penny the way you would normally flip a coin."
I was definitely confused, but still curious, so I did as he said. The penny landed on my outstretched hand.
"Is it heads or tails?"
"Heads."
Kellin pointed towards the pen and paper in my lap.
"Alright. We're going to take turns flipping the penny twenty times. When it lands on heads, write the word 'right' on the paper. When it says tails, write 'left'. Got it?"
I nodded, smiling now. I think I know what we're doing, but I can't be sure.I wrote 'right' on the paper, my stomach fluttering in excitement. Kellin flipped the coin this time.
"Left,"
he announced. We continued to flip the coin until we had twenty 'left' and 'rights'. In the end, the paper was covered in seemingly meaningless directions:
right, left, left, right, right, right, left, right, right, left, left, left, right, left, right, right, left, left, right, left. Satisfied, I threw down the pen, exhaling in relief.
"There, twenty times. So... What now?" Kellin smiled angelically at me, his perfect teeth glowing in the dim light. "We drive."He drove forward, coming to the first stop sign of the journey.
"What's the first direction?"
"Right,"
I told him, and he turned. This road was much longer, but he asked for the next direction when we finally came to the stop sign.
"Left,"
I said automatically. I stared out the window at the sun, halfway sunken over the horizon, spouting out directions to Kellin and being careful not to repeat the one I had already said before it. It was a much shorter journey than I had expected, but when we finally ran out of 'left' and 'rights', we were stopped in front of a newer-looking, clearly abandoned building. The LA city lights twinkled all around us as Kellin climbed out of the car. He stretched, then reached for a basket I hadn't noticed sitting in the back seat. "What is this place?"
I wondered aloud, coming to stand beside Kellin. We stared up at the building together, and I clutched his cool hand in mine.
"I have no clue,"
he admitted, starting towards the door. "But it looks promising, doesn't it?"Unsurprisingly, the lock on the door had long since been torn off and tossed aside, presumably by the cities drug dealers. I was anxious and uneasy about going inside, but I let Kellin drag me in anyway. He flipped a switch on the wall, and lights flickered on to reveal a large, empty office space. It was shockingly clean and well looked after, especially for a seemingly abandoned building.
We headed for the stairwell, afraid of being trapped in the hazardous-looking elevators. How long has it been since this place was shit down?
"I guess we lucked out,"
Kellin said, glancing behind his back at me.
"Yeah. At least it's relatively clean, minus a few beer bottles."
He laughed, sending shivers up my spine. After a long, tiring climb, we reached the top story. The 12th floor, according to a lit up sign near the elevators. We managed to find an average-sized office room, it's back wall made completely of glass, overlooking the brightly-lit city. I sighed happily.
"It's so beautiful up here..."
Kellin nodded in agreement, though he wasn't looking out the window. He was looking at me. I blushed profusely, my heart pounding furiously in my chest. At this rate, I'd scare Kellin away. My heartbeat was the only sound in the room, he could probably hear it from a few feet away- but he wasn't a few feet away anymore. Kellin stood behind me, his arms sliding slowly around my waist.
"I brought champagne,"
he whispered in my ear, sending me into hysterics. I giggled like a little girl. "How did you get champagne?"
I felt him shrug.
"My mom keeps a large supply of alcohol in the house."
I could practically hear the grin in his voice. He pulled away from me, squatting on the floor to open the basket he had brought. He pulled out a sky-blue blanket and spread it out on the wooden floor. I helped him unload the rest of the basket: champagne, half-melted ice cream, a package of Oreos, and two wine glasses and small China plates. We spread everything out on the blanket before sitting down ourselves. We sat side by side with our legs crossed, knees touching, staring out the window at the dark LA skyline, lit up with the lights from skyscrapers. I couldn't have asked for a better night.
"Hey Vic?"
"Hm?"
"About what happened in the bathroom today..."
My heart went wild again, and I was glad that it was too dark for him to see the blush creeping up my cheeks. "Yeah?"
Kellin sighed, running his fingers through his long, dark hair.
"Do you, by any chance... Do you like me?"
I was slightly surprised by this question, but I answered honestly.
"I- I think so."
I smiled in spite of myself. Kellin was just so easy to talk to.
"Good, because I like you too."*****
I'm sorry for the awkward ending, I'm trying not to make this chapter too massive. Also, I only proofread like, half of this, sooo. Thank you for 32 views! :') I love you all, and because today has been a shitty day, I just wanted to remind you that if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm one private message away. <3
