"Hello?" I call, looking around the seemingly endless shore. "Hello, is anyone here?" I try again, hoping that someone, anyone, can hear me. Loneliness tugs at my heart, and I kneel by the surf and sob. Someone grabs my arm, and i look up.There is no one there.
I look back just in time to see a tidal wave, approaching quickly. The surf crashes down on me, and I cant breathe. I struggle to get to the surface...
"Agh!" I cry, sitting up in my bed. I look around my room. No water, no beach.
It was all a dream.
I lie back down, pulling my pillow over my face, trying to fall back asleep. After a few long minutes of tossing and turning, I finally throw the pillow off and get up. Outside, I hear the rooster crowing and know i wouldn't have gotten much more sleep if i had stayed in bed. I splash some water on my face, trying to wash away the thought of the recurring dream. I go get dressed, and by the time I get downstairs to the kitchen there's already a steaming plate of hot apple pancakes. I notice a note next to the plate, and pick it up.
Hey lazy bones, its about time you woke up. Pa and I are going to the corn field, and Ma is off at the market. If ya want to make yourself useful, the apples trees are in need of picking.
Luv you,
Sam
I smile at the note from my older brother. I quickly polish off the pancakes, grab a bottle of water, and head out the door. I usually enjoy my morning walks to the orchard, but today the cold wind spoiled it. As I walk, I get the unmistakeable feeling that someone is watching me. I look up, and see a figure sitting in one of the trees just off my family's property.
I'm not paying attention to where I'm going, and trip.
"You okay?" The figure asks, obviously laughing. He jumps down from the tree and walks over to the fence. "Yeah, I'm good." I reply. God, stop blushing! I think to myself. He smiles at me, and I notice he has the cutest dimples. "My names Justin." He says, holding out his hand. I shake his hand. "Me and my family just moved in. I take it this is your family's property?" He asks. I nod my head, still unable to speak comprehensively. "Cool, guess were neighbors!" He exclaimed. "Want to come over to my house for a little bit? Just to get to know each other." He asked. "S-sure" I stammered. I hopped over his fence, the butterflies in my stomach uncontrollable.
Little did I know, that was one of the last days of my life as an ordinary farm girl.
