Lightning streaked across the sky as Amber looked down at the grave in front of her. Rain fell from the scorched rose in her hands, damping the dirt below her. Kelsey and Liz had long gone back into the house, failing at any attempt to get Amber inside for the storm as she continued to stand at the grave.
"How long do you think she's going to stay out there for?" Liz moved away from the window and turned to face Kelsey, Kelsey pacing the living room.
"I-I don't know. She has been out there for hours. She has to come inside at some point right?" Liz nodded and turned back towards the window, looking back out as the ground shook from the boom of thunder. Amber tightened her grip on the rose in her hand, kneeling down to place it down on the dirt next to the makeshift cross.
"I'm s-sorry T-Trevor... I couldn't keep you alive when you did everything you could to save us..." Her voice cracked as she spoke, the rain covering the tears falling down her face as she stood up and began to make her way towards the house. Liz jumped slightly as Amber threw the door open and walked quickly towards her room.
"Amber?" Kelsey turned as Amber walked into her room, the door slamming against the wall as Amber threw it open. Liz and Kelsey moved quickly towards the room, peering inside as Amber threw clothes into a backpack. Amber quickly moved out of her room and into the kitchen, grabbing two kitchen knives and putting them into the backpack before throwing it on her back.
"We need to go. It's not safe here anymore. That guy he... he could come back to kill us." Liz's eyes widened in alarm, quickly running into her room to pack up her own pack. Kelsey's mouth dropped as she shook her head and sighed.
"Listen Amber. That guy isn't coming back here. He has no reason to come back two days later and kill three girls!" Amber's hands clenched into fists as she moved towards Kelsey.
"Oh so he had a reason to attack the village in the first place? He had a reason to kill Trevor!?" Kelsey opened her mouth to speak but quickly closed it, sighing deeply before stepping back from Amber. Liz soon came out of their room, a backpack on her back and another in her hands. Before Kelsey could ask, Liz tossed the other backpack to her. Kelsey quickly caught it and shook her head again.
"I agree if Amber. There's nothing left here for us anyway, everything except for this stupid house was destroyed by that man." Amber pushed past Kelsey and went back outside into the rain. Liz shared a glance with Kelsey before walking out as well, the door slamming shut as Liz jumped down the porch steps. Kelsey threw on her backpack and followed after them, whining slightly at the sight of the downpour they were walking into.
"You do remember what happened last time we were alone right? The reason we needed to find a place to live?" Amber and Liz either ignored or didn't hear Kelsey over the storm as they kept walking towards the woods. "We're so dead." She shrugged the backpack further up her shoulders and followed after them. By nightfall the rain had long passed, the only thing for miles now trees. Amber moved ahead of the group, Kelsey and Liz staying behind her. No one spoke, they only listened to the sounds around them all fearing that the man would appear to take his next victims.
Amber now had a knife held close to her as she moved through the woods, spinning around madly whenever a twig would snap. The world had now become a place full of danger and horror, nothing safe to her anymore. Everything Amber loved was taken away from her in a blink of an eye and she would not let that happen again. For her and her sister's sake. Amber stopped the group as they neared a dirt path cutting through the woods.
"What is it?" Liz moved up and whispered, kneeling down next to Amber by the treeline next to the path. Amber pulled out the other knife from her bag and handed it to Kelsey, motioning to the man on the path walking towards their position. Liz's eyes widened as she watched the man approach. "Do you think that's him?" Amber nodded and took off her backpack, placing it on the ground next to her.
"Liz, you're staying here. Kelsey, go down more and wait for him to pass you. We're going to attack him from two sides okay?" Kelsey nodded slowly and took her backpack off before moving down the treeline and crouching down in the shrubbery. Liz knelt down and tried to steady her quickened breathing. The man passed where Kelsey was located in the treeline, approaching towards Amber's position.
Amber shared a quick glance with Kelsey and then nodded, both of them coming out of the woods at the same time. Amber approached the man quickly, the man still looking at the ground as if lost in deep thought. Kelsey stayed close behind him, her knife glinting in the moon light. Amber quickly ran towards the man as he looked up, screaming as she charged at him and began to stab the knife into his stomach.
