4 • The Task At Hand

Amber gasps for air as the man moves back quickly and brings his leg around, hitting her in the face and sending her to the floor. Kelsey is on the ground next to her in seconds, both of their knives in the man's hands. Two people step out from behind him, their hair falling loosely on their shoulders in the moonlight. The man kneels down and looks Amber in the eyes, his face in shadow. 

"Who sent you to kill me?" Amber is cut off guard from the sweetness of his voice, nothing like the man from the attack. A laugh bubbles up in her throat as she realizes her mistake. "Why are you laughing?" The man puts the knife closer to her neck, his hand shaking slightly. 

"I-I'm sorry. We thought you were someone else." The man stands up straight and looks from her to Kelsey. "We thought you were someone who attacked us a couple nights ago." Her laugh dies down as she images flash into her mind from that night. The man tosses the knives onto the floor and turns to the two girls behind him. They whisper to each other, the girls seeming to scold the man as they speak. 

"All right, all right!" The man turns back around to face Kelsey and Amber, sighing slightly. "Are there any others with you two?" Amber nodded slowly and carefully got to her feet, the two girls stepping up next to the man in defense. Amber moved her hands up and turned her head in the direction of were Liz was. 

"Liz! Come out now and bring the backpacks please!" Noise came from the tree line as Liz came out of the trees, the backpacks in her hands with one of her back. Liz stopped when she noticed the man and the two girls standing in the road. "Don't worry about them Liz! Keep coming over here please, slowly!" Liz nodded and began to walk towards them slowly, keeping her eyes glued on the group. 

"What's your name?" Liz stopped next to Amber and kept her eyes on the man, Kelsey now standing up as well. The man shared a glance with the two girls next to him, both of them nodding slowly before speaking.

"I'm Kuro." The girl to his left stepped forward, pulling the hood on her head back. Her blue eyes seemed to glow in the moonlight, her brown hair falling loosely on her face. 

"I'm Shiro." The other girl stepped forward and pulled her hood off as well. Her purple eyes seemed to match the glow of Kuro's, both of them seeming to be the same age as well. Kuro and Shiro turned to the man and motioned for him to step forward. 

"I'm Eclipse..." The man stepped forward and bowed, Kuro and Shiro facepalming and sighing deeply. 

"Please excuse him, he's an idiot." Liz burst out laughing at their remark, Kelsey holding her laughter as well. Amber stepped forward and bowed as well, Eclipse nodding and standing up straight at the same time she did.

"I'm Amber. This is Liz," Liz laughed and mock bowed, "and this is Kelsey." Kelsey held out her hand to Eclipse, shaking it with her as Liz stood up straight. 

"Well it was nice meeting you three but Eclipse, Shiro and I have to get back to training. We will probably never see you three again but hope you have nice lives, come on Eclipse." Kuro tugs on Eclipse's arm, pulling him past Amber and the others. 

"Oh! You're right Kuro, sorry we should get going. It was nice seeing you three, hopefully next time we meet you won't try to kill me again!" Eclipse laughed and walked off with Shiro and Kuro, disappearing into the woods after a while. 

"Well that was awkward." Amber nodded as Liz continued to look at the place Eclipse walked into the woods, nothing left as evidence of him being there. Kelsey bent down and picked up the knives on the ground, handing on to Amber while keeping the one in her own hand. 

"Let's not attack people randomly at night anymore okay?" 

"Good idea." Amber turned and picked up her backpack before continuing down the dirt path, Liz and Kelsey following after her. They all froze as a scream cut through the silent night, the leaves rustling as a gust of wind came down on the forest.
