Chapter 6: The walk home

After looking through the menu I looked up to see Coda look at me then look away quickly. I'm guessing she was sent to my table because after about 3 minutes she slowly made her way to me.

She had her hair up in a bun and was wearing an apron around her waste. The apron was filled with pens and straws.

"H-hello..I'm Coda and I'll be your waitress today. What can I get for you?" she said with a small smile while pulling out her small notebook with a black pen.

"I'll have cookies and cream ice cream please" I said with a smile.

"Ok, will that be all?" She said looking up from her small notebook.

"Yes"

"Ok I'll be right back with your order"

After about 3 minutes I saw Coda come out with my ice cream. She placed it right in front of me and slid in a small note that read:

On the house.. :)

I smiled and looked at her with a soft small smile. I mouthed 'thank you' and winked at her. I could see her blush a light red and then look away.

While I was eating my ice cream I could see Coda giving me small glances while she was taking orders from other tables. I just smiled and continued to eat my ice cream.

After about an hour I left the cafe an went around to the back where the back door was.  I knew I was gonna be waiting a while so I sat down on the floor by the garbage can and and put my earbuds in. I started listening to 'Startset'. After about 30 minutes the back door opened and out stepped Coda wearing my sweater.

I got up and waved.

"Hey"

"Oh hi, w-where you waiting for me?" She asked tilting her head.

"Yeah" I replied rubbing the back of my head.

"W-why?"

"I wanted to make sure you were safe"

"Ok..and can you do me a favor..?" She asked while looking down at her feet.

"Of course"

"C-can you walk me home..? I've been reading about some kidnappings that have been happening and I'm scared to walk by myself.."

"Of course, I wouldn't want my nerd to get hurt" I said with a small smirk causing her to giggle.

"O-ok thanks"

Me and Coda started walking and we ended up on the other side of town. I was starting to get concerned about her. She walks all the way across town to get home and to get to work..?

We passed by a few houses and finally reached a small one story house with a garden of red roses with a tree with branches that sagged down instead of going up. It looked like a swamp tree but it was smaller. It also had a small black metal gate that had a cute mail box with small hand prints on it.

"Thanks for walking me across town.."

"Anytime and how long have you been doing this?"

"A-about 2 years...since sophomore year.."

"Don't you get scared?"

"No..not until I read about those kidnappings.."

"Well..from now on I'm walking you home from school and work, I don't think it's safe for you to walk alone"

"Oh you don't hav-"

"Yes I do! I don't want you getting hurt by some pedophile or a murderer"

"But-"

"But nothing, I want you to be safe"

"O-okay.." She said while opening the mail box to get the mail.

"See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah.."

We sat in awkward silence. After about a minute or two, she leaned and kissed my check softy. Her lips felt soft and warm. I wish I could feel her lips with mine..

I blushed a bit and started walking away.

"Bye.." She said while waving.

"Cya"

I walked back to my part of town and walked home with Coda on my mind. When she leaned in towards me I wanted to turn to her and kiss her but I didn't have the balls to do it.

I walked up to my door steps and unlocked my door. As soon as I came in I saw my little sister with her arms crossed and her foot tapping the floor boards.

"Do you know what time it is?!" She yelled.

I looked at my watch and saw it was 12:30am.

"Time for you to go to bed?"

"Shut up! Your late and you were supposed to help me with my science project!"

I face palmed.

"I totally forgot..I got busy after my boxing classes."

"With what?? A girl?!"

"Yes, her name is Coda and she's beautiful!"

"That's no excu- wait what?? Beautiful? I've never heard you say those words to describe a girl besides mom. You usually say 'hot' or 'sexy' "

"I know, thats because I didn't know what beautiful was until I met Coda.."

"Wait your serious about this girl?"

"Yeah, I think I am"

She squealed and jumped up and down.

"When can I meet her?!"

"Uh how about never?"

"What?? Why not?!"

"Because you'll probably say things your not supposed to say"

"Ugh. Fine whatever I'll meet her one day.." She said with a smirk.

I just shrugged and went upstairs to my room. I dropped my backpack and through myself on my bed. Thank god it was Friday..

I slowly fell asleep with Coda on my mind.
