Chapter Nine: I'm Here

Jeremy couldn't believe the words that came out of Brianna's mouth. He believed her, but it was so foreign to him. He didn't know what to do. He stared at her, shock clear on his face.

"Say something." Brianna whispered, her eye's beginning to water.

Jeremy was speechless, but he had to say something. He didn't want to give her the wrong idea. "I-uh...I'm sorry, Brianna." He said. She nodded, and let a tear roll down her cheek.

It killed him when he saw girls cry, but it killed him even more when he saw just a simple tear come from Brianna's eye. It felt as someone was turning a knife into his heart. It hurt him that bad. "C'mere." Jeremy whispered, scooting over so Brianna could have a place to sit. Brianna got up, and placed herself between the arm rest, and Jeremy.

Jeremy wrapped his arms around her waist, and placed his head on her shoulder. "It'll be okay." Jeremy whispered into Brianna's hair. Tears fell down her face at a steady pace.

"I-I can't believe I told yo-ou." Brianna cried, clutching onto Jeremy's arm as if her life depended on it.

"Do you regret telling me?" Jeremy asked, wiping tears off her face.

Brianna paused. "I guess not..." She hiccuped. He felt relieved. He didn't want to think he pressured her into telling him.

"I'm glad." Jeremy half smiled. He held her in his arms. He felt he could keep her safe. He wanted to keep her safe from everything. He father, the bullies, everything.

After a couple more crying spells, and comforting words later, Jeremy had done some thinking. He didn't want Brianna's dad to harm her anymore. He wanted to put a stop to this, but he was sure that if he told someone, they probably wouldn't believe him. He wanted to beat her dads face in for what he does to Brianna. Jeremy now had pure hatred towards her poor excuse of a father. This made Jeremy wonder how long this had been going on. How long she's been tortured, how long she's lived a complete, utter hell.

"Brianna?"

"Yeah?"

"How long has your dad... you know?" Jeremy questioned. Brianna sniffled a little, and sighed.

"Two years..." She replied, looking shamefully at the ground. Brianna personally thought in a way, she was the reason for her fathers abusing, but she knew most of it was when he found out her mother was sleeping with other men. He took up drinking, and took all his anger out on Brianna. He only let Brianna's mother stay because he didn't want her to think he cared.

"Two years? Two fucking years?" Jeremy raised his voice, but not too much so he didn't frighten Brianna. She nodded, afraid of what Jeremy was going to do next. "Why haven't you told the police?"

"My dad... he said that if I told anyone he would... k-kill me." She gulped, beginning to tremble. Jeremy felt exasperated. Not towards Brianna, but towards her dad.

"I wish I could get rid of him for you." Jeremy said, rubbing circles with his thumbs on Brianna's waist.

"Thanks..." Brianna replied. Jeremy didn't know how to handle this, really. He felt he should tell someone, but that might anger Brianna. He wouldn't take the chance. Another thing he didn't know was how Brianna dealt with the bullying, and abuse. But, he'll save that for another time. "Thanks for helping me out, and actually making feel like I'm worth something." Brianna thanked him quietly.

"You're welcome."

"You umm... should get going. Dad might be home soon..." Brianna said, kind of disappointed. She just told a guy she knew for only a couple days practically her life story. Of course she didn't want him to go.

"Okay. I'll text you when I get home, and I'll keep checking up on you." Jeremy said, into Brianna's hair.

"You don-"

"I'm worried about you, Brianna. Making sure your okay is the only way that'll make me at peace." Jeremy interrupted her, giving her one more squeeze before standing up.

"Fine..." She sighed. Brianna walked Jeremy to the door, and he pulled her in for another hug. She buried her face in his chest, right below his collar bones. "Thank you... again."

"No problem. Now, go up to your room, so your dad will leave you alone." Jeremy said, kissing Brianna on the forehead. She never felt affection from a boy before. Even if it was a measly kiss on the forehead, it meant more than it showed.

"Okay, bye Jeremy." She waved as he exited her house. He waved back as she shut the door.

If only life was this easy all the time.
