Chapter Fourteen: School Public is as Public as it's Going to Get
Brianna's POV
You could say I was beyond nervous and terrified to enter those school doors with Jeremy by my side. I knew he'd still care about what happened to me, but I didn't know how the rest of the school would react when they saw the jock hanging out with the vulnerable, little nerd. Heck, I didn't even know if Jeremy would stay around me today. For all I know he could ditch me and go to his friends on the football team, to get groped by desperate cheerleaders.
On another note, I'm sort of scared to find out what Meagan and her little minions had in store for me. God forbid they not get their way with things, because that would just be catastrophic.
"You're shaking."
A voice brought me out of my thoughts. I looked beside of me to be met by Jeremy's mesmerizing eyes. "What?"
"I said you're shaking." He repeated himself, pointing to my hands that dangled at my sides. I looked down at them, and realized they were trembling. I sighed, stuffing them in my pants pockets.
"Sorry." I muttered, looking to the ground.
"Why are you shaking?" Jeremy asked, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"I'm just... nervous and sort of scared." I admitted, feeling a bit ashamed now that my thoughts left my mouth.
"Why?"
"About how everyone will react to us being friends. I'm sure I'll just get bullied even more. And, I'm sure I'm going to get the shit beat out of me by Meagan." I explained.
"Listen, Brianna. Don't worry about what other people think. They are just a bunch of rude gossips that need a life. As for Meagan, I'll be around you as much as I can today, so she should leave you alone, but at some point and I'm not, try fighting back, please."
"Its easier said than done, and I can't assure you anything," I sighed "But... i'll try."
"Thank you." He smiled, pulling me into one of his comforting hugs. "Ready to go inside?" He asked, once we pulled back.
"It's now or never, right?" I smiled nervously.
"Thats the spirit." He smiled, putting his arm around my shoulders. I just nodded as he guided me through the schools doors.
When we entered, random students were scattered through the downstairs hallway, most of the students were upstairs at their lockers. The stray students really didn't pay any mind to us, which I was grateful for.
We walked through the hallway, to the steps that led to the upstairs. We climbed them in silence. You could here the students chatter from the bottom of the stairs.
"You okay?" Jeremy stopped at the upstairs doors.
"I'll be okay."
"I'm right here, remember that." He reassured me, squeezing my shoulder. He pushed open one of the double doors, and as soon as it slammed shut, almost everyones attention was on us.
Some students were to busy talking to look at us, while others gawked at us like we had three heads.
I tensed under Jeremy's grip, at all the attention. Why can't they just pretend I didn't exist?
"Where's your locker?" Jeremy whispered in my ear.
"B-337" I whispered back. He nodded, walking me to the direction of my locker. When we reached it there was two girls and a boy standing it front of it, chatting away. "Excuse me."
They snapped their heads up in my direction. "What do you want?" One of the girls spat. What was that for?
"You're standing in front of my locker." I said quietly. Jeremy squeezed my shoulder, trying to urge me to be a little more confident.
"So? Everything doesn't go that way you want it to, hun." The other girl sneered. Seriously, who shit it their cornflakes this morning?
"I said move." I demanded, a little louder.
"You know you wouldn't be so confident if you didn't have your little boyfriend with you." The boy said, cockily. Shoot me already.
"She said move, and I'll be damned if you think I'm going to stand here and listen to your bullshit. You either move, or I'll move you." Jeremy practically growled at him. The boy shot Jeremy a glare before stalking away. The girls flipped their hair, and walked away, scoffing.
"Thank you." I murmured, stepping to my locker, letting Jeremy's arm fall from my shoulders.
"You're welcome." He replied as I twisted in my combination, opening it. I grabbed my necessary textbooks for my first four classes, Literature, Science, Art, and Math 2.
Just as I shut my locker, the bell for out first class went off. "Which class do you have?" I asked Jeremy.
"I have Math first, then Biology, Art, and Social Studies."
"I have Art my third period too. I guess I'll see you then."
"Yeah. Have fun in class." He smiled, pulling me in for a hug, before jogging off to his locker.
Two out of three of Meagan's minions are in my Lit. class. I bet I'll just have a barrel full of fun.
