My eyes fluttered open only for me to shut them again. Light flooded through the window above my head.
Window above my head?
I let out a whimper as I sat up from laying on the floor. My neck ached immensely. I ran my fingers across my throat and around the base of my neck. My skin was even achy. I bet I have bruises.
Somehow, I managed to get myself up from the floor and over to my bed. There, I found my phone laying on my pillow. I pressed the middle button, making the screen light up with multiple texts, missed calls and voicemails from Jeremy.
Some of the text messages said, 'Call me back, please.' or, "Are you ignoring me?' and, 'Are you okay?'
His voicemails said mostly the same things the texts said, but one the voicemails said, 'Hey, Brianna. I've come to the conclusion you are mad at me or you aren't okay. I'd rather have you mad at me than you being hurt. I swear if your fucking Dad touched you... just call me back ASAP.'
I brought up Jeremy's contact and debated on calling him. I knew if I tell him, he'll blow a gasket. I'm just afraid he'll go off on my Dad if I tell him. He'd surely kill me for telling Jeremy.
Well, maybe if I could calm him down or something before he went on a rampage. I guess that could work. Sighing, I pressed the green 'Call' button. It rang 3 times before he picked up.
"What the hell, Brianna? Are you okay?" He shouted. I winced and pulled the phone away from my ear a bit.
"I-I'm sorry. Something came up," I replied, swallowing the bile rising in my throat.
"What came up?" He asked in a low and dangerous tone.
"Nothing important," I mumbled, rubbing my neck.
"Bullshit!" He yelled. I jumped, almost dropping my phone on the floor, "Something happened that you won't tell me about."
"Jeremy, calm down. Please," I whispered. If he was already pissed, imagine how mad he'll be when I tell him.
"Okay," He huffed. I herd him breathing up and down, trying to calm himself down.
"You better now?" I wondered after about 5 minutes.
"Yeah," Jeremy answered, "Now, on with what came up."
I swallowed the lump in my throat before whispering, "My Dad." It was so quiet. I hope he herd me.
"What did he do?" Jeremy growled. He was mad again.
My eyes began to sting with hot tears. I tried to blink them back, but they just ended up falling down my face.
"He-He," I sobbed, "choked me until I.. passed out."
I was crying so hard at this point I was surprised I herd him talk.
"That son of a bitch!" He raged. I herd something break in the background, "I want you to come over."
"I-I can't," I cried, "He's home."
"Sneak out," He urged.
I gulped before nodding, even though he couldn't see me, "Okay."
"Be safe," He mumbled before hanging up.
I pressed the 'End' button before setting down my phone. Tears still fell down my face. I wiped them away as fast as they came.
Once I tamed my tears, I headed into my bathroom. I looked into my mirror. The bruises on my neck were speckled purple, blue and black and yellow. My brown hair was a frizzy mess. My eyes looked red, puffy and dull.
