On your marks,
Get set,
GO!!!
The crowd of horses whinnied and stamped as we started across the track. I ran with all of my might to finish first. I was filled with determination and fear of losing. A flashback of mine and Liv's last race flashed through my mind.
I remembered the pain of being laughed at, and the feeling of failure. Failure hurts. It feels like daggers shooting through your heart and into your soul.
My mind shouldn't be based on the past though, it should be based on the present and winning the race that I had the chance to redeem my past failures. At the thought of this, I powered forward and past ,the currently leading, Liv. She snarled at me and threatened to kick me but I kept going.
We were neck and neck and nearing the finish line. A few more paces to go. I just need the final burst of energy to win this. She overtook me but I instantly regained my place at the front. I was going to win this! Just a few more strides and I would be greeted with the winning feeling. The arms of victory were open for me to grasp.
Suddenly, I felt a kick on my hind leg and went tumbling to the ground in pain and agony. The earth started spinning and going blurry. My vision was slowly fading until I saw nothing but a dark void.
