“Absolutely brilliant!” Holly cried, and the entire crew applauded the boys, myself included.
“And dancers too – wow! Incredible!” Nick cheered, and this time it was everyone’s turn to applaud us, the boys included. I looked up at Harry who was stood beside me and he grinned, sending a wink in my direction as he praised us. It caused a massive blush to creep onto my cheeks, and so I looked away at the view before us instead. We were all stood at the top of the runway stage that had been set up for the concert, and had just finished dancing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, the final number in the show. Which only told me one thing: the concert was tomorrow.
“Tomorrow is going to be amazing, so all go home and get a good night’s sleep; you’re going to need it,” Paul laughed. With that, people began to work again, setting up props and lighting for the stage, though as for us, we were done. I let out a small sigh of relief at the fact that rehearsals were now completed, though also felt the largest amount of nerves suddenly wash over me. I shouldn’t be nervous for this, I should be excited! I had nothing to worry about; I knew my choreography, and the boys knew their songs, so why did I have this terrible gut feeling that something was going to go completely wrong?
“Car?” Harry said above me and I looked up at him. It was only us two left on the stage.
“Sorry, let’s go,” I smiled, following him as he made his way off the stage. We walked along the corridor and as we neared his dressing room he turned around with an innocent look plastered on his face as I didn’t follow him inside.
“I need to change out of this,” I explained, pointing down to the dress I was wearing for the final performance.
“Okay,” Harry smiled. “I’ll come and find you in a minute.”
I nodded my head and turned in the direction of the dancers’ dressing room. As I neared the door, my ears picked up the sounds of hushed, whispered voices, and I stopped before I walked inside, the wall shielding me from anyone’s sight.
“They’re definitely together.”
“You’re completely right, but after the way he treated her? She just looks so desperate!”
“Can you blame her? It is Harry Styles. She’s probably just in it for the sex.”
“You’re right, but why her? The fact that he cheated on her says how terrible she must be.”
“You guys think they’re sleeping together?”
“Definitely! The smug grins that they have across their faces when they’re together says it all. They’re not just friends – they’re friends with really good benefits.”
“Jesus Christ, will you two just shut up!?”
“Ali’s right; if Carly says that they’re not together then that’s the truth.”
“Well there’s only one way to find out.”
I didn’t let whoever it was elaborate on her sentence, because I’d heard enough. I stormed into the room and silence instantly elapsed between the many girls in here. The ones who had been talking a load of crap were stood in one corner, and Ali, Brianne and a few other girls in the opposite corner. At least some people believed the truth.
I could feel a number of sets of eyes on me, though I didn’t meet one pair, not even Ali’s. I had too many thoughts swarming around in my mind that I couldn’t bring myself to form words. I was shocked, disappointed, hurt, though most of all: drained. I was so drained that I didn’t even have the effort to defend myself. I stopped in the corner of the room to change out of my dress but paused, knowing that everyone was still watching me. I sighed and turned around, meeting the eyes of the idiotic girls who thought that I was a liar.
