“Morning,” I heard beside me in a soft, American accent. Though I barely heard it. My eyes stayed fixed on the neutral white ceiling above me instead of the new girl for a new day laying next to me. I closed my eyes and sighed. What was happening to me? I knew that I was flirt but since when had I started sleeping with a new girl every night? ‘Since you wanted to get over Carly,’ I heard my voice say. God, couldn’t I have any time alone with my thoughts? ‘I’m not even thinking about Carly!’ I shouted back at it, praying it was true. I didn’t even know.
‘Why can’t you just admit it?’ Great, it was back again.
‘Admit what?!’ I thought furiously and then it disappeared – leaving me alone with my thoughts again. Trust it to leave me wondering. I pushed any new thoughts about Carly out of my mind and quickly sat upright.
“You should leave.”
“But-”
“Just go,” I simply said. Watching the girl walk away, I now felt pretty bad, but hearing the door close made me breathe a small sigh of relief. It had been almost a month since I had arrived with the lads in L.A...a month since I’d seen or spoke to Carly. I’d text her on my first day here though had never again – she had even BBM’d me once asking me how everything was but I hadn’t replied. It was horrible and cruel of me, I know, but I just wanted so much to forget about...forget about the other person I was when I had been with her.
“Harry!” a loud fist started pounding on my door. “Get ready; we’re recording everything about you today!” I stood up and walked over to my closet, pulling out jeans and a plain white t shirt; I wasn’t in the mood today.
Closing the door behind me, Niall walked up and patted my back, singing to himself.
“Guess I like the way you smile with your eyes other guys see it but don’t realise that its ma ma lovin! Love this song, Har!” he said cheerfully and ran ahead.
“On the other side of the world, it don’t matter,” I whispered to myself. After stopping and shaking my head I ran ahead thinking about anything else that didn’t involve HER.

“You ready?” I called and Gabby came running up by my side. We had arranged to go out with Georgia and Zayn’s friend Megan, who we hadn’t met before. As if Zayn’s friend Megan who had a boyfriend which displeased his because he liked her A LOT apparently. We were going shopping in Covent Garden because it was easiest for all of us – I lived there anyway so we only had to walk ten minutes to get to the shops. Kristen was meeting us there, we didn’t know why.
I let Gab out before me and then locked the door behind us. We began walking down my empty street and although it was silent, I didn’t find it awkward because I seriously needed to sort out everything with my thoughts. It had been a month since Harry had gone, which was...confusing. He confused me – a lot. I’d heard from him the first day of sixth form and no more – I had even tried contacting him myself but had gotten nowhere. Reality had only sunk in then that I was just a girl he was using, for what reason I don’t know, I mean it’s not like we had sex, so it just confused me even more. ‘You’ve seen on the internet Car, guys like him don’t get attached, they’re just players,’ Kris had told me as nicely as she could. I wanted to believe it but somehow my brain refused to let it sink in. So basically I hadn’t heard from Harry, and didn’t count on it happening any time in the future. School was...school really. And my favourite subject was biology, because I got to sit next to Sam who was literally the heartthrob now along with his best friend Tom, and they didn’t even know it. It was crazy...seriously, if girls in year 9 were drooling over you, it was pretty obvious so he should take the hint. He hadn’t asked me out, and that didn’t bother me at all. Sure, he was VERY gorgeous and genuinely lovely, but we were friends. Good friends, surprisingly. I didn’t think either of us wanted more. Listening to myself, I sounded crazy, like I actually thought I had a chance! Never in a million years. And then there was Gary. Gary this, Gary that. He was always round the house and was all my mum ever talked about, which annoyed me. Quite frankly I’d have rather not found out; I could see just my mum then. I’m not totally judging, the guy was fine, but somehow I didn’t think he and my mum were the perfect match. I’m one of those crazy people that believes every person has a soul mate who they’re meant to be with, but he is not mum’s. Just my opinion.
“You okay?” Gab asked, as we got closer to our destination.
“Yeah, fine, just thinking about how much has happened over the past month to me,” I sighed.
“I know, it’s crazy. You’ll get used to it though Car, your mum being with another man,” she said.
“I don’t think I will,” I shook my head.
“Just...see how it goes. They could break up next week! Everything will work out in the end. So, have you tried contacting Harry again?”
“And face the humiliation of me looking like a desperate fan with him not replying? No thank you,” I answered honestly. Gabby nodded in agreement.
“True.”
“What about you and Liam?” I asked, smiling. We hadn’t really talked about what had happened to us; we couldn’t with everyone else there, none of us wanted to tell because we thought we’d get hated on. That’s what happens most of the time.
“I...err...we talk all the time, Car,” she answered sympathetically. I widened my eyes. I hadn’t expected that. Truth be told I hadn’t expected them to have spoken at all because I was making up my own conclusions that messages wouldn’t deliver from America to England. Which was why Harry hadn’t contacted me.
“Oh...I mean ohh! That’s great, Gab!” I smiled, hoping it looked real. “Is he being a flirt?” I winked.
“No! Everyone knows Liam’s the sensible one, but he’s very charming,” she added.
“So, what? Is it going anywhere?” I questioned.
“What do you mean?”
“Like...when he comes back are you guys going to go out on a-”
“Don’t say the D word-”
“Date?” I finished. She cringed. What? What had I said? Apart from the ‘D’ word? What was wrong with that?
“He said to me the other night I was like the girl friend he never had,” she replied.
“Whoa! That’s good!” I cheered.
“No...not the girlfriend, the ‘GIRL’ ‘FRIEND’,” she emphasised with her fingers. “Two separate words. So basically, just a friend that’s a girl.”
“...oh,” I sighed after a few awkward seconds of silence. Gab huffed.
“Gab, wait til they come back, you never know,” I slowly said, remembering what Liam had told me that day seeming so long ago now. That he fancied Gab, but he was going to take it slowly. And for me NOT to say anything. Whoopsie.
“I hope you’re right, ‘cos he’s so fit,” she simply said. I burst into laughter. “And caring!” she further said, probably realising that she sounded a bit mad.
“Hey look, there they are!” I said as we edged closer to the decorated store window of our favourite shop in the beautiful covent garden: Jack Wills.
"hello!" Georgia cried, smiling with glee as Gab and I approached the doors.
"Hey gee!" Gab said, pulling her in for a hug. I greeted kris then looked over at the other girl standing there, who I assumed to be Megan.
"This is Megan!" georgia continued gleefully, and she stepped forward.
"Hello, I'm Megan," she said in a soft, innocent voice. Aw, she was adorable. Which was kinda weird for me to say as she was older than me. But we were the same average height, so it didn't seem as mad.
"Hi Megan!" I said, giving her a hug as did Gab. We chatted for a minute and she agreed to tell me all about how she knew Zayn at lunch. We walked into Jack Wills, all smiling at the sight of the beautiful summer clothes. I pulled my phone out, clicking onto bbm. My picture was still of me and Harry, I suppose I should change it; he obviously hadn't thought of me lately but I'd thought of him a lot so decided i wasn't ready to yet. I edited my personal message and then clicked the save button, waiting for it to update. It did and I smiled to myself.
'Girly day with Gab, Kris, Gee & Meg! Bring on jack wills!' I scrolled through the other updates and when a new one popped up I laughed out loud.
'Jealous of Carly.' it simply said by Louis.
"Louis' jealous of us, guys," they all laughed like me and I put my phone away, turning it on silent so it wouldn't keep beeping with pointless broadcasts. We then all split up into groups, Georgia, gab and Kris together and me and Megan.
"So do you like jack wills?" I asked her.
"Yeah, its my favourite shop!" she leaned close to my ear. "just pretty expensive."
"I'll agree with that!" I said.
I'd brought a lot of money because I hadn't bought anything in awhile. I seriously needed some sweatpants for the gym, and I figured Jack Wills' were the best. Kristen and I always went the gym; we didn't need to lose any weight but it was a good way to keep fit and stare at the guys with the muscles. I wandered in and out the shop, Megan beside me. She found a cute pink t shirt with 'JW' on the pocket, and me some loose grey bottoms with bold writing down the side. They were exactly what I wanted. Heading to the changing rooms, we both tried them on and they fitted perfectly, so we joined the others at the till. Everyone had found something to buy which was coolio; now we could walk round with our blue and pink striped bags. I was first in line so when I turned and headed to the counter, I had to look twice at who was serving me.
"Sam?!" he looked up and a bright smile appeared on his face.
"Carly!" he said cheerfully.
"Oh my god, I didn't know you worked here!" I said as he took the bottoms which I was now pretty embarrassed to be buying.
"Yeah, just started a few weeks ago," he smiled. "who are you with?" I pointed behind me to everyone, and he gave them a small wave. Kris and Gab waved back, Megan widened her eyes, and Georgia's jaw fell open. Yes I know, he was pretty fit.
"I don't recognise two, who are they?" he asked as he placed the pants into a huge bag.
"Oh they're my friends from...err...my street," oh god, that was the worst lie I'd ever heard. Sam laughed at me and I shook my head to myself after giving him the money. He put my receipt in the bag and smiled, handing it to me. He served the others, and Georgia kept smiling brightly at him which was hysterical. I know she was Louis' girlfriend, but there was no harm in making all us die with laughter.
"Have a good day then girls," he waved and then winked at me. Winked. At. Me. Was he flirting now? We all giggled like 5 year olds and ran out the shop.
"My god he was fit!" georgia stated and Megan agreed. Gabby began to sing and I widened me eyes.
"Carly and Sam sitting in a tree...K.I.S.S-"
"-Gabby, is this yours?" we all heard and turned around to see Sam holding a purse. Nooooooo. Please lord pray that he didnt hear that!
"Err...yeah - thanks Sam!" she said and pulled me along as we ran away. The situations my friends put my in...Megan must think we were crazy already.
We went through shop to shop, each trying clothes on and spending A LOT of money. Seriously, I'd never known myself spend as much in Covent garden, but after the month I'd had, I deserved it. Hours passed and before I knew it we were having lunch in a chic little Italian.
"Here you are ladies," the waiter handed us our cokes and lemonades, as each of us thanked him. Although it was the beginning of October, the weather was surprisingly beautiful today, so we had sat on a table outside. I looked up at the blazing sun through my jet black raybans and smiled at the warmth it gave me. Remembering that I had no sun cream on, I quickly took them off; I didn't want to get sunglasses marks on my face.
"So," I said, leaning on my arms and widening my eyes. "Tell us everything about you and Zayn, Megan!" she smiled at me.
"Aw, he's a sweetheart. We met in primary school, and became best friends straight away. Kids always used to skit us saying we were a couple, but it didn't bother of us because we never thought of each other in that way. He's my best friend," she looked down, blushing slightly.
"Aw!" Gab, Kris and I said in sync. Megan and Georgia laughed as I carried on.
"So wait - you're actually from Bradford?" I asked.
"Yeah! But the college here was perfect for me, so I moved down a year ago. I don't see my family as often, but Zayn keeps me company when he can," she smiled.
"Yeah, that's more to say than that pathetic boyfriend of yours," Georgia hissed, admiring her nails. We all looked at her and she finally looked up.
"Pathetic? Seriously Georgia, just don't. I know he may seem angry but it's only because he's protective of me-"
"Protective...HA!" Georgia laughed.
"Yes, PROTECTIVE!" Megan emphasised. "he's really nice when you get to know him," she told us. "I think - oh my god!!!" she jumped up and looking around, finding...no escape? Jumped under the table and hid her face. What was happening?
"Megan?" we all heard in a stern voice and looked up in the direction that it came from. Standing between the roped off section of the restaurant and us was a tall, muscular boy glaring down at us though his piercing dark eyes. Whoa. He was attractive in a less obvious way, but my god was he scary. His face was screwed up, showing his sharp, defined features as he looked down at megan who was hiding under the table. Suddenly everything with me clicked and I felt sorrow and guilt because it was clear that she was afraid of him.
"Oh...hi Lee," she mumbled as she stood up to face him. He looked her up and down, not admiring the floral jumpsuit she was wearing but instead forcefully grabbing her arm and hissing in her ear.
"I thought you said you had plans," he spat at her.
"I did...with my friends," she answered truthfully.
"So you'd rather hang out with your FRIENDS than your boyfriend? I thought you loved me, megan," he carried on. I widened my eyes; I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
"I do!" she said, her eyes filling with tears. I saw her quickly wipe them away; she probably didn't want him to notice.
"Prove it."
"What?"
"You seem to have had a nice little day...if you really love me you'll end it here and come now," he said. Was he actually kidding?! How rude!
"Can't I just have lunch?" she asked. He began to walk away.
"Lee, wait!" she cried, picking up her bag and jumping over the rope. He smirked.
"I'm so sorry, it was lovey meeting you girls - I'll call you all!" she rushed, and my jaw fell open. Lee smiled at us, actually looking genuine for once, but I knew by now it was fake.
"Until next time, girls," he said sarcastically and pulled Megan away. I waited until they were out of sight before I turned and locked eyes with Georgia, as did Kristen and Gabby. All of our expressions were exactly the same: shock. Georgia raised her eyebrows and nodded to us, raising her glass in the air.
"And that's Lee."
