Matthews words were stuck in my head the rest of the night. I didn't know wether or not to tell mom. Will she even believe me? She might just think I'm being paranoid.
I go into the bathroom to take a shower, and there on the door is a note, and it's for me. I read:
Dear Karis,
You better stay off my grill, you have no right
To invade my privacy. You are tormenting me and making it difficult to love your mom. If you disagree with this, STAY OUT OF IT!
I didn't know what to do or say. I start walking to the trash can but then, I thought, I could keep this note to show mom! Then she'll know I'm right!
I walk out and my mom is sitting in the couch. "Hey mom. Where's Matthew?"
"He went to Walmart. Why?"
"No reason. I just want to show you something."
"Oh, okay. What is it?"
"It's from Matthew. He wrote me a note." I handed the note to her.
"Oh, why are you harassing him Karis?" She shouts. "Why don't you want me to be happy? Why can't you just deal with this?" She starts crying and gets off the couch. "You are not a very good daughter." Then she walks away into her bedroom.
I go into the bathroom to take my shower. I get out and Matthew is waiting right by the door. His mouth is in a straight line, and his eyes are bloodshot. He has a knife in his hand. I grab my towel and cover my self immediately."What are you doing in here?"I shout. "Get out! Now!"
My mom runs into the bathroom. She sees the knife in his hand and me with a towel wrapped around me.
"Dinners ready." Says Matthew, so calm, it alarms me.
"Honey, what are you yelling at him? He just came in here to tell you that dinner was ready." Says mom.
"He unlocked the bathroom door, and walked in while I was naked!"
"Honey, he's your father now, deal with it!"
Matthew leaves and mom walks in. "You need to stop being so paranoid! Shut up and get ready to eat." She slaps me and leaves. I rub my face and run into my bathroom. I get dressed, pull up my hair and jump down the railing from my window. My moms never hit me before! I am crying from the pain of the cold wind hitting against my red face. And I run, and run, and run.
