I am walking home from school. When I remember to stop by Evie's house on the way. So I take my detour, I need to prove to my mom in not always gonna be her little girl. So I've been coming home late every day to start off slow. Then my plans are going to get a little more dangerous.
I walk down the street, my dark clothes absorbing the seen sunlight. It's mid spring, and in Ohio it can get pretty hot in the spring.
"Karis! You actually came!" Evie runs out of her small house and onto the gravel road, pulling down her tiny black leather skirt. I always liked that skirt. Their short black hair with a red stripe is bouncing off her shoulders. I was always kind of jealous of Evie. She was so pretty, and smart. She's also a good friend. She says I'm pretty too, but I don't believe her when she says that.
Her dad pulls up in his old dump truck shouting at us to move. He has his music on top volume, so I can hear Luke Brain singing one of his stupid songs.
"Hey Karis! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with your mom at home?" Says Evie's dad. That's another thing Evie's lucky for, a father. My dad left me when I was only two years old. He was drinking in a bar and stole his friends motorcycle and got in a wreck. After mom paid the hospital bill he took her money and left.! Evie's dad isn't like that. He'd stay with her no matter what. Her mom is always busy though. At least both her parents love her.
We hang out for a while. Just talking and scaring the neighbors cat away. After about and hour I leave and go home. My moms sitting on the small couch in our tiny apartment. Tapping her foot. I'm in trouble I thought.
"Where were you?" My mom says sternly, raising her eyebrows.
"I was just at Evie's house mom! Geez. You can even ask her father if you don't believe me!" I started toward the hallway when she said sit down. I dropped my bag and sat.
"Now I have a surprise for you. I may be good or bad. In my opinion it's a good surprise. No matter what you have to deal with it." She points her head toward the hallway and out walks Matthew.
