I run so far, I don't even know where I'm going. I pull out my phone. Then I realize, I forgot it at home. I groan and start yelling.
I notice I am by Evie's house, so I walk to her part of the neighborhood. I walk up to her door, then hesitate. Should I? Then the door opens. Evie walks out and says hi. She asks what's wrong and we just walk out to her backyard swing. I sit down and tell her what happened. I told her how Matthew had the knife, how I was naked, how mom yelled at me and then slapped me.
"Oh Karis, she's never done that before. Are you okay?" Evie replies, she says it with such sympathy. By then I start crying. Evie cane over and hugged me. "What are you going to do?"
"I don't know, can I stay at your house?"
"Yes. Come on."
We walk into her house. I say hi to her father then go into her room. We just talk. Then I fall asleep. My breath is short and steady. Then my dream starts getting twisted. The walls turn bright yellow, causing stress, then I see Matthew with the knife. He runs at me and I hear my mother yelling. Then I wake up. I start breathing faster. Matthew is taunting me, he's making smart comments. He's laughing. My mom is yelling. Yellow surrounds me. Breath even faster. I start shaking. Matthew is yelling my name. Karis! Karis! Karis! I scream waking up. Evie is right next to me. I get up slowly. My head is throbbing.
"Bad dream?"
"Yes." I reply.
"I got you breakfast."
"I'm good. Thank you though."
"Okay. Want to talk about your dream?
"No. Not really I am going to go for a walk."
I walk outside, then I start running. And my breath grows rapid. I love that.
