Chapter Two

Ana took a deep breath and pushed open the doors leading to the lobby of the school. She pulled out her planner and went to her locker, A12. As she walked through the halls, the rush and noise was overwhelming. She entered the combination and put her books in her locker then headed for her homeroom. As soon as she walked in, she noticed all the other kids were already forming cliques and friendships. She shyly sat down at a desk in the front and got out her notebook and began writing. The teacher took attendance and as she came to Ana’s name, she paused. Ana looked up and sighed to herself. “Ana. It’s pronounced Ana…” She stopped mid-sentence so that she wouldn’t look like a stuck up bitch on the first day of school. The teacher just nodded and continued down the list of names. The bell rang and Ana gathered her books, heading for her first class. She looked down at her schedule. “AP Bio. How lucky am I?” She thought to herself. She wandered around the halls for a few minutes before finally finding the right classroom. She walked in and noticed all the older looking students in the class. She straightened her shoulders and chose a table in the front. The bell rang just as the last student rushed in, and it was obvious she was another freshman. “Sorry I’m late.” The girl managed to say. She was medium and had short, but straight brown hair. The girl looked around, and seeing that all the tables were full, sat down next to Ana. The teacher took attendance, even though, to Ana, it seemed unnecessary. “Ana Cole.” Ana raised her hand. “Thanks for saying it right.” She said, smiling. “Ellana Carter?” The girl next to her raised her hand. “You can call me Ella.” Ana looked over at the girl, who seemed ready to jump out of her seat. “ADHD,” Ana thought to herself. The teacher went on to read the syllabus and plan for the semester. The bell rang and Ana tapped Ella on the shoulder. “Um…Hi, I’m Ana.” She said, uncertainly. “I just moved here from Hollywood.” Ella smiled. “Ella. Well, obviously!” Ella giggled. “What class do you have next?” Ana looked down at her schedule as they walked to their lockers, which were in the freshman hallway. “AP Lit. What about you?” Ella was beaming as she compared their schedules. “We have all the same classes except for study hall and choir!” Ana smiled happily and though “This is going to be an amazing year.”
