Chapter 7

"The meeting is dismissed. Thank you for your time." I say as soon as we finished.

I said my goodbyes as my workers left the meeting offices leaving me on my own with Niall.

"God Liam I am so sorry. I didn't mean to knock the girl." He apologized for the hundred time.

"It's okay Niall. You didn't know she was there. She is fine so no worries." I tell him before patting his back.

"I'll knock next time." He promised.

"You always said that but you never do." I laugh.

"By the way, who is the girl? She doesn't look like someone we make business with and less one of the girls you sleep with?" He asks.

"She is neither. She is the girl who is a volunteer on the kid's hospital." I say.

"Holy shit! What is she doing here?" He asks.

"She came to apologize for her childish behavior last night. She flipped me off." I say.

"Holy shit!" Niall laughs loudly and I just glance at him. "I like her. I truly do like her now."

"Whatever." I roll my eyes.

"But sorry mate didn't you said yesterday that she was not beautiful in the sightless?" He asked.

"I did." I admitted.

"Check your eyes. She is beautiful and I have only seen her with blood pouring out of her nose." He says.

"She is cute but that is it." I say.

"Don't you like her?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I don't like her." I say.

"Didn't look like it when you were so worried about her." Niall smirked and left the meetings room.

I groaned and grabbed a few papers before leaving the room too.

I was indeed worried but that doesn't mean I like her. If you see someone get hurt you will help them for sure. I was just helping her nothing more, nothing less.

I stepped into my office, finding Violet's body next to my desk. She looked at something on top of it and furrowed her brows.

After what happened I made her rest on my couch. The doctor told us that she got hit in the face and that caused the blood coming from her nose and the dizziness was caused by the hit on her forehead.

"Hey, I see you are feeling better?" I asked.

She jumped in surprise before exhaling loudly. "God you scared me."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean too." I apologized.

I realized at a little purple spot was beginning to form on her forehead but luckily her nose stopped bleeding soon after the nurse left.

"What were you doing there?" I asked with raised eyebrows.

"I was just looking around." She gave me a little smile. "You don't have anything personal in here."

"Personal? What do you mean?" I ask with furrowed brows.

"I don't know, like photos of friends and family. Or I don't know, the mug your niece did for you." She explained.

"This is my place of work so I don't want to make it into something personal. And I don't have a niece." I say.

"Oh." She looks down and then back up at me. "I personally think our place of work will be better if we have some reminder of people who are closer to us. It made you feel like you are not alone."

I think of what she said and I mentally groan because she is right. I never thought about it that way. Maybe I will put some photos in there.

"What do you have in your place of work?" I found myself asking.

"Lots of things. I teach art to kids and my classroom is full of their paintings. I also got a pic of my family on my desk." She tells me. "Also I always carry this."

She pointed to a necklace I have always seen her wearing. It was heart shaped and it looked antique. She looked at it with a smile on her face and pulled it open. She showed me the inside and there was a little photo in there. In the photo you could see a little version of Violet and a much older one. I assumed she was the little girl and the woman was her mother.

She closed it and turned it around to face the part that was hidden.

"Always in my heart." She read the inscription.

"That truly is a beautiful gif." I complimented it.

"It is the last thing she gave me." She smiled slightly.

"The last thing?" I can't help but ask.

"Yes, before she passed." She tells me.

"Oh, I'm so sorry." I say with sadness.

"It's okay. It was a long time ago." She said. "That is why I am a volunteer on the hospital."

"She inspired you to do it?" I ask.

"Yes, she died from cancer and ever since I wanted to still be involved in helping people suffering it." She tells me.

"I think it's amazing what you are doing." I say.

"Why thank you." She says in awe. "I'm glad to have this necklace. It reminds me of her. Even if she is not here, I just feel her next to me. I...I don't know if that makes any sense."

"If you truly feel like that, it does." I say.

"Thank you Mr. Payne for listening." She says with a smile.

"It's okay. Call me Liam." I found myself saying.

"So no more Mr. Payne?" She smirks at me.

"No more. Just Liam from now on." I say with a little smile.

I don't know if I just did it because I was feeling sorry for her after her hit and her confession about her mother but I asked her what I never asked to any girl.

"Violet, would you like to have dinner with me?"
