I honked again for the third time.
"Maybe she died." Hayden widened his eyes jokingly, but Troy didn't exactly see his face to know so he punched him in the shoulder. "Ow! man, I was kidding." Hayden said rubbing his almost broken shoulder.
I laughed, "It's probably her mother or something." I told them. Troy sighed. I looked at him through the rear view mirror, "she'll be here in about...two minutes."
And I was wrong again; the moment I breathed the last word, Whisper burst out of her front door, and ran to the car. "Sorry for being late; mom was ranting on and on about her stupid list of warnings." She huffed, and threw her backpack at the back seat.
"At least you are here." I smiled at her, then turned to check out the road before the car.
"What happened to your car?" Whisper questioned.
I shrugged, "Nothing. I just thought - since we're going on a road trip and there are four of us - maybe it would be better if we drove in a much bigger car."
She smirked, "This car is huge. Where did you get it?" she was right. This car is huge; it was a 2007 Escalade.
"I burrowed it from Travis." I said blankly, while putting on my sunglasses.
"Travis? Randie's-Travis?" She cocked an eyebrow.
I almost chuckled at her nickname for him. Travis worked at a hardware store by the name Randie's. I had to let her know though. "His parents are rich, Whisper. He just likes to make his own money." I shrugged.
"Oh. And he just gave it to you." She questioned with a scoff.
I chuckled this time, "Not really. We switched cars. He's got mine until I give this one back to him."
She sighed leaning back in her seat, and looked at Troy. He smiled and pulled her into a small kiss. I giggled and drove off.
As I should probably explain, Whisper, Troy, Hayden and I agreed to go on a road trip to Quebec to jump off a cliff. Michelle and Patrick could have come with us, but Patrick does not feel comfortable with people he does not know well and Michelle literally gagged the second I mentioned going across country to "kill myself". I laughed when she said that. She is a lot fun, in her own known territory. So now, it is just the four of us bonding through the nine-hour-drive listening to bad music and doing the whole cliche motel rooms crashing, maybe even making new friends with people we see for the first time on the way.
Whisper rolled down her window and grinned as the wind flapped her hair to the side. I was smiling as I watched her through the rear view mirror, then glanced at Troy. He was smiling delightfully big as he checked out the scene of her. She looked from the road to him and giggled. He grinned and just remained watching her.
I stole a glimpse at Hayden; he was laying his head back and watching the road...and his eyelids were puffed up slightly. I guess he is sleepy... okay, maybe very sleepy. I looked back at the road and drove silently.
After about three hours of driving, we stopped for a gas refill and bathroom breaks. I am pumping gas while Whisper is in the restroom doing what any normal human being would do. Troy was in the store paying for the gas and getting some snacks for the next three hour drive. As for Hayden, well, he fell asleep soon before the first hour in the car passed...and is still sound asleep.
I looked at him from the back window, but I only saw the top of his head. As I tilted my head to look back down, I saw his reflection in the side mirror. I smiled; his mouth was slightly open and his hair was covering his eyes. I almost laughed. He looked like those boys posing in emo pictures. It looked good on him nonetheless.
