Panning for gold has always been your favorite past time. Just going out with a back pack, a pan, a shovel, and a gun relaxes you beyond anything else. Being 28 and having no luck with men, you have decided that maybe getting married wasn't for you. Today, the July weather is going to allow you to go panning. It only takes you a few minutes to get ready. Getting your waders on, getting your back pack, and throwing on a sun hat, you drive out if Hoonah. Today you feel a bit risky, so you just stop off the side of the road and follow a trail. Not knowing where this trail goes, you just try not to worry and instead enjoy the wildlife. Stepping quietly you take in the smell of pine needles and the summer air. It takes about two hours before you hear the rush of a river. Your heart starts to beat fast as the water gets nearer. Following the path you start to realize that the river is getting quieter. Turning on your heal you quickly make your way back towards he loudest point. Stopping at a curve you listen. Following the rush you struggle through the brush and branches until you burst out into a clearing. The clearing reveals a creek, not a river, with Rapids. Following the bank you come around a curve where the creek forks and you follow the smaller, less turbulent path. Finding the perfect spot you drop your things and prepare to start panning.
Gabe's POV
I can't believe they sent me out of the camp. What did u ever do to them?!Gabe stomps along through the brush, frustrated at himself. He though he could handle his brothers arguing but he couldn't. His anger got the best of him for once and he snapped. Now he feels absolutely terrible for yelling at his brother like that. His feet carry him farther and farther until he could eat the water. Not knowing where he is he follows the creek and heads downstream. The creek should take him out to the bay eventually. In no hurry he stumbles along the creek side. Watching the creek bed he sees fish dart under clear water. Suddenly he hears a splash. Grabbing for his rifle he watches a bear clumsily climb into the water. The bear pays no attention to him and wades downstream. Interested, Gabe crosses the creek and follows him. The bear is unsteady on its feet and this worries Gabe. It may have rabies and that is not good. Gabe didn't plan to kill a bear today but he may have too. Cocking the gun he swings it off his shoulder and grimly follows.(Y/N) POV
The water slowly sloshes around in the pan and you wait patiently for some gold flecks. "Ah, crap." You shake your head and dump the pan out. Grabbing for your pan again you dig another spot. As you prepare to clean this batch you hear a spine chilling roar. Dropping your pan and reaching for your revolver you jump up. A grizzly has decided to charge you and you cock your gun. Your finger squeezes the trigger and a shit rings out. Except, you didn't feel the kick. The grizzly stops white foam comes out of its mouth. The crazed eyes roll back as it falls forward. Trembling in your boots, you see a man behind the bear. He lowers his rifle and stares at you from across the fork in the creek. His broad chest heaves heavily as he sees you. You lower your revolver and stare. He swings his rifle over his shoulder and jogs over. His curly hair is dripping with dew as he comes to a stop before you. His blue eyes are scrunched in worry. "Are you okay miss?" You finally get ahold of yourself. "Y..yes. My revolver misfired. Uh, thank you for... Being there at the right moment." He sighs and a smile creeps into his face. Letting out a chuckle he reaches for your revolver. You hand it to him. You don't know why you trust him, but he just has a vibe that you can't put off. Watching his muscular arms unload your gun, he pulls the stupid bullet out. The lead didn't even fire. "Chinese made?" He asks stuffing it in his pants pocket. You nod and start to look for your stuff. He grabs your bag and shovel. Washing out your pan you thank him. "Did you find anything?" You nod solemnly. "No, but u want here long enough I think." You smile and take your bag. Slinging it over your shoulder you look at the grizzly. Thinking about the jerky it could be turned into your stomach growls. The man glances down at your stomach, "would you like some lunch?" You smile at his sweet face and to your surprise you agree. "I would love some. Oh, and my name is (y/n)." You hold out a hand and he quickly rips off his glove. "My names Gabe. My family's house is just down there, I think. I kinda stormed off and walked without knowing where I am." You laugh as he scratches the back of his neck. "Well, lead the way Gabe." He hesitates before deciding to go down stream. You watch his back and shoulders. It starts to most out and his tank top is quickly soaked. This doesn't bother you because you get a good look at his giant shoulders. The muscle ripple as he fights his way through the brush. For once you are glad someone found you while panning for gold. Suddenly Gabe slips and he lands in the mud down the side of the bank. You rip off your an and jump down laughing. His body is covered in mud and he just sits and pouts. "Are you okay?" He looks up and sees your laughing face. The only thing you can see is his eyes and his teeth. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just hate getting my jeans soaked." You laugh a little harder and you reach an arm down to help him up. Your boots sink a little farther down into the mud when he accepts your hand. His face suddenly turns mischievous and he sits back down, pulling you with him. You body hits the mud with a SPLAT! "Oh, no you didn't!" You grab a handful of mud and smash it in his hair. He does the same and you end up covered and laughing. He looks into your eyes and he seems hesitant. You decide that you are going to kiss him. You haven't even known this man for an hour but, he was the one. Leaning in quickly you tackle him with a kiss. The kiss is sloppy but filled with everything you felt at that moment. You blush under the mud as he smiles. "Well, that wasn't what I was imagining when i thought of our first kiss." You laugh and stand up. Helping him up he wipes his mouth and spits. "I can't get the mud out if my mouth!"Sorry that one was so long, but whatever.
