The drive home was spontaneous. Addilyn swooped up her keys, and ushered Jayce out the door, just as she'd seen her stepfather do in the case of this event. Jayce went as routine, no protest, after saying goodbye to Lilly.
Only the hum of the rode filled the awkward atmosphere of the car, fortified street light highlighting Jayce's emotionless face every now and then.
"Why'd you have to do that in front of them? In front of all of her company?" She didn't care about how it wasn't the right "time" to talk to him, or how he might react, she just wanted to know.
"What company?" Jayce asked, coming to a realization himself. "Oh shít! I left her with Jake!"
"You sure did, dumbass." Addilyn laughed. "Either way, you would of been in this car."
"Well, turn back around."
"I'll call and ask your dad if I can turn around."
Jayce crossed his arms and looked out the window, defeated. Things in his world was so hard for him to deal with. His mind kept telling him to try harder, reach over and take the wheel. Addilyn would just get frustrated and let go, proclaiming, "Fine! When you get in trouble I don't care!" He never got in trouble really, and they both knew that. Regardless, Lilly wouldn't let him back in her house.
"I have big plans for Lilly." Jayce announced, devilish scheme in his voice.
"Yeah, I know. Get her under your control, get in her pants, then dump her." Addilyn remarked. "But that middle one, won't be so easy."
"Nah, I might actually get this one pregnant." Jayce taunted, but she refused to give him the attention he pleaded for. "I seriously never try to do those things. It just happens. But Lilly's different. I actually like her, but she keeps..." His voice trailed off, and judging by how each word got angrier, the last one must of exploded.
"To be honest, I think I might be the one to get played here. We have to turn back around. I'm not letting this happen." Jayce began to get anxious.I hope that happens. Addilyn cheered in her head. "Get over yourself. We're basically home. And you might as well tell him what you've done, before it hits the news." The car pulled up the driveway, and Addilyn was the first inside. Jayce lingered behind, texting Lilly with fast thumbs some sort of paragraph.
Addilyn pulled open the drawer and stole Jayce's keys, going upstairs.
Jayce came in seconds after, only hearing the pattern of quick heels darting up millions of stairs. He sent the message with a sigh, then sat on the couch.
After a couple of seconds he checked.
After a minute he checked again.
After a couple of minutes, he checked a third time.
After the 10 minute mark, there was no more time for waiting.
"Do you know how much can be done in 10 minutes?! I've done plenty of damn cheating in 10 minutes! I've shown two people a good time in 10 minutes!" He said quietly, pulling at the hair on his arm.
"Okay Jayce. Just go back and see what's going on. Everything's okay." He self-soothed, heading to the drawer. He felt around for their shape, but after not feeling his keys, he stuck his head in level with the drawer. He saw nothing, but the intruding image in his brain of Lilly with Jake Blayde. He let this thought bump roughly against the corners of his head, bouncing around like some sort of energy.
"Jayce?"
Jayce turned to look at Mason with bewildered eyes. To Mason, these only looked like the eyes of someone who had been drinking with a mix of party drugs.
