Josh leans down and kisses my forehead softly. "Kelly, it'll be alright. Now let's go to class." He says taking my left hand and his right hand and lacing our fingers together. Then him, Brenda, Sam and I walk down to the far end of the hall. I wave at Maddie as she heads to the high school wing for art class. I turn to the right and enter Mr. Toemore's class for social studies. I walk over to a table near the back the room with Shelby and Cassandra. "Is Jamie here today?" I ask Shelby.
"No I don't think so."
"Ok." I say sitting down and pulling a can of salt and vinegar Pringles out of my bag. I get my school iPad out of its case with my ear buds. I listen to Goner by Twenty One Pilots. I eat my Pringles and listen to music for the rest of class and do the papers we are instructed to do. And since I'm not too smart I mostly just copy off Shelby and Cassandra. When the bell rings Josh walks with me to the art room and then heads off to science. I feel bad for him cause he has to have science. I liked science when I was in elementary school but I've hated it since I came up here to the middle school. It's not the subject, it's just the teachers. I hate art class for right now because we had to take and print a selfie, then now we have to draw it. I'm really bad at drawing. I'm bad at a lot of things, especially gym. I feel bad about that because Josh is really good at gym, I think. Josh on the other hand is good at a lot of things. We are quite different, but as long as he doesn't care, then I don't either.
I whiz through health class and walk to science with Maddie. Her and I sneak out of science, me claiming to get a drink and her going to the bathroom. I pulled my phone out of my right ass pocket (my right back pocket) and texted my mom.
K: Why the hell did you sell my ring anyway?
M: We are kinda low on money right now.
K: That is no fucking excuse! You could have told me. I could have gotten a job. Or you could get a better job! Or a second job.
M: Look young lady, you don't speak to me like that!
K: Whatever, don't expect me to come home any time soon.
I shoved my phone back into my ass pocket before she could answer.
"Let's go Maddie." I say dragging her behind me.
We walked back in and I actually did my work instead of back talking. When the bell rang, I told Josh about what my mom said, then I told Sam and Brenda as they caught up.
