A week later I came out of my room in a black dress my mom had bought. I had stayed in my room the whole week. My phone was shut off. I hadn't said a word to anyone. I only slept, read, cried, and the necessities. My mom tried to talk to me but I wouldn't say anything. I'm sure I have a million texts, mostly from Brenda. I got my shoes on and walked alongside my mom to the car and got in. "Sweetie I'm really sorry. Will you please talk to me?" she begs. But I only turned and stared out the window.
She sighed. "Josh was cremated. I thought you would want to know." I glance at her and nod. In case you hadn't guessed, I am on the way to Josh's funeral. I grabbed the tissues from the back when we stopped. I got out and walked into the funeral home. A few minutes later all my friends and Josh's arrive. I hugged Brenda with tears stinging my eyes. I turn around as I hear someone say my name. There standing behind me is Josh's mom with his little sister standing practically attached to her. She opens her arms to me. I hug her tightly. "If you want to talk about anything at all, I'm here for you." she says.
I nod "Thank you."
She smiles at me and hands me a small package. "Josh prepared this for you when he first got to the hospital. He said 'Mom, if anything happens to me, give this to my amazing girlfriend Kelly.'"
"Thank you." I say taking the package from her hands.
She nods. "You're a really sweet girl Kelly."
I smile a sad smile.
....
After the service I walk up to the front of the room tears stinging my eyes. All of a sudden I grab the urn and bolt to the nearest exit. I hear people yelling my name and telling me to come back. The only voice that stands out is Brenda's. "Kelly where are you going?" she shouts. The truth is, I have no idea what I'm doing or where I'm going. I just run with tears blurring my vision.
