Fair warning, Kelly gets just a tad dramatic in this chapter but she has reasoning for being dramatic so hear her out please.
We all stayed the night in the hospital with Josh again. I fell asleep at 7:30 though because I had a migraine and I was exhausted. I fell asleep right after dinner. Sitting in Josh's arms. The t.v was on quietly. It was tuned to one of my favorite shows,
"Two Broke Girls." I had already seen the episode about a hundred times before anyway so it's not like I was missing out on anything. Brenda and Todd were sitting in their chairs talking quietly with Josh. Todd and Brenda went to get coffee before dinner but I refused to drink mine. I didn't eat much either. So after a while I fell asleep. I don't know what time it was when I woke up but I know it was late, or early. But like I said, I don't know what time it was. Something was really off. I sit up. Josh is asleep beside me. Oh no. The device thingy that is like a heart monitor isn't beeping. It's making a constant beep, as in flatline. Beeeeeeeeee...
"BRENDA, TODD! Go get help or someone or something. Brenda wakes up. "What happened, what's wrong?"
"Go get help now! Josh isn't responding!" She and Todd rush out of the room. At this point I'm sobbing so hard. "Josh? Josh please wake up!" I say still crying. I poke him a few times. I grab his hand which is colder than its supposed to be. I pinch his nose shut, open his mouth, cover his with mine and blow twice. Then I start pressing on his chest. A nurse comes in followed by Josh's doctor and Brenda and Todd.
"Ma'am I'm need you to step outside the room." The nurse asks looking at me.
"No Josh no!" I scream as Brenda and Todd guide me out of the room. Behind us we hear the paddles whine as they start up. Thunk! I am a hysterical blubbery mess. Brenda hugs me as I sob on her shoulder and Todd stands with us.
"Shh, Shh, I know, I know."Brenda says still holding me.
"What am I going to do?!" I blubbred. "Brenda, my chest hurts so bad right now. It hurts so much! I couldn't save him!"
"Kelly calm down it's gonna be ok." She whispered in my ear.
"No no no no no. It won't." I moaned.
The nurse came back out and looked at me somberly. "I'm so so sorry, but he's gone."
"No! No he can't be!" I sobbed.
Brenda got my phone out of my pocket and texted Josh's parents.
K:You need to get over to the hospital Now!
Josh's mom: What? What's wrong?
K:Just get over here.
Josh's mom:We're on our way.
Then she texted my mom.
K:This is Brenda and we need you here now I'm sending you directions now.
M:On my way.
When everyone got here Brenda and the doctor both explained what happened. Josh's mom started crying. By this point I was sitting on the floor still crying. My mom sat on the floor with me and held me in her arms.
