Chapter 15: And the search begins

"Mikey!" Kevin yelled in a very high pitched girl voice as he ran through the halls to any room he could possibly find her in. Nina and her team had just gotten back from their wild goose chance in Washington DC and Kevin was so worried about Mikey that he had asked if they could fly him over headquarters so he could parachute in, thereby arriving faster.Nina had dismissed this idea the moment he said it, explaining that they would be landing in a few minutes and if he parachuted out someone would notice and wonder what was going on in that building.

Triss let her brother run around looking for Mikey, knowing it would calm him down a little bit, if only slightly. "Kevin," she began as she grabbed his arm. He pulled away immediately however and tried to return to his search. "Kevin!" She half shouted as she pushed him hard against the nearest wall and made him look at her. "We're going to find Mikey...."

"Ya but.." Kevin started, but was cut off by Triss.

"Let me finish Kevin." She sighed. "Our father has never been known for his, well subtly, before. It won't be too hard to find his new hide-out with all the commotion he'll be making because he has Mikey. She's the prized possession and now he has her. Plus with Nina we have the best resources we could possibly hope for." Triss smiled as best she could and pulled her younger brother into a hug while patting his back.

"Thanks Triss." Kevin finally said after a few minutes of nothing but silence. "There's no point in moping around while there's work to be done, lets go find out what Nina's found on Mikey and how those people even got in this place, Alright?"

Triss smiled. "Lets go."

As they walked to Nina's office they heard someone crying from inside. "Ari I am so sorry!" They heard Nina exclaim to Ari. "We know they came in through the secret door between the normal kitchen and this whole place, since there was ice all around the edges of where the door use to be, and all over the door laying in a few pieces on the floor. Now all we have to do is figure out how they even found out where we were."

"That's all we have to find out!?" Ari exclaimed loudly forgetting completely about crying and just becoming angry. "We need to find out where my sister is! You let people get in here and take her! You didn't leave enough people to protect her! You better get her back! I don't know anything about this city, but you do, use your contacts and find my sister!" No sooner had they heard Ari shout the last sentence at her Grandma that they watched her storm out of the office and walk in between them both with such force they they were knocked a little to the side.

"I'm going to go talk to her."Kevin stated slowly turning to go follow Ari. As he turned the corner, just about to call Ari's name, he saw someone holding her. He wanted to shout what's wrong!? But just before he did he realized she was crying again. Recognizing that Henry was the one holding her his worries vanished, Kevin trusted Henry with his life. "Hey..." He began but trailed off as he watched them begin to kiss. "Everything is going to be alright." Henry smiled sadly. "They will do everything they can to find Mikey." Ari silently wept as she shook her head in agreement. "I barely got to spend anytime with her ever since we got here! She had Kevin and then lately i've had you! I haven't even told her that we're together." She started crying again as she leaned onto Henry once more.

"Oh hi Kev!" Henry exclaimed suddenly as he saw Kevin standing there watching them in utter amazement. "I, well, I guess you know we're dating."

Kevin laughed. "I don't understand you two, why keep it a secret that you guys are dating?"

"Well we're going on missions together now, and i'm not sure how Nina feels about partners working together. So we just decided not to tell anyone for now so Nina doesn't find out. It's not like you and Mikey, technically you aren't working together yet." No sooner had Henry said the last sentence that he realized what he'd done. He hugged Ari a little tighter and turned to Kevin to apologize. "I'm so sorry man! I didn't even think about it. We're all worried about her. And don't worry, we're gong to find her. Plus with her powers she can take care if herself."

Kevin stood there for a minute without speaking. "Ya she could take care of herself." He finally said. "If only she knew how to control her powers."

As Mikey started to wake up an unfamiliar room slowly came into focus. She tried to remember what had happened but everything was coming in a blur. She remembered being taken in the van and just about to make the driver pull over and let her out when everything had gone dark. "That must have been the man Ari and I tried to escape from in our hotel room before we got into this whole mess. The one who worked for George and could mentally tell if there was anyone with powers in or around the room, who could also sense where anyone with powers were." She reasoned to herself. This was not good, "there has to be something I can do to get out of here!" Of course then she would have to find her way back to Nina's, even though she'd only been outside of the building once and honestly had no idea how to get there, plus they might have moved to a different building since George knows where they are now. "But you know other then that I should be fine."

No sooner had Mikey discussed this with herself when a big bald man walked into the room. She noticed the door was iron and most likely had at least ten locks on the other side of the door. There was a guard standing outside the door, he looked to be in his mid twenties and in really good shape, as she tried to get into his mind to maybe help her escape her head felt like she'd just run head first into a semi.

"Ah! We wondered when you would try to read one of our minds or try to control us." The bald man said as he helped Mikey back up into a sitting position on the cot.

Mikey was still dazed from the shock. "What, what just happened."

"We didn't want you to control any of us so we put a kind of wave link all around this room. So good luck, as of right now you're as normal as most of the idiot people in this world. Don't even try getting into anyone else's head, the more you try the more it will hurt."

Mikey refused to believe it and tried to control the bald man. But just as he had said all she felt was pain. "I told you." The man jeered at Mikey when he saw her face contort in pain. "Do you want to try again?"

Mikey glared but said nothing.

"Ok just be stubborn. My boss will be in here later to talk to you, I think you'll like to hear what he's got to say."

"I doubt it." Mikey grumbled under her breath. Refusing to look up at the man she was starting to feel a strong dislike toward.

"Oh so you do have a voice?" The man bent down and looked Mikey square in the face. After she refused to look at him he grabbed her chin and lifted it up to face him. "I'm glad you have a voice, if we had to end up torturing you I wanted to hear your agony." Mikey realized in that moment that she might not be able to control anyone but she figured she could still move things with her mind. With all the self control she had she stopped herself from throwing the man across the room, or moving the lamp from across the room right to his head. She wanted to seriously injure him, but if she did they would somehow put a stop to her being able to use that power and she would lose the only advantage she had.

"Good thing for you my voice is still working then huh?" She finally decided on saying. "Wouldn't want you to be disappointed and lose out on your fun."

The man laughed and let go of her face as he walked to the door and knocked four times. The door opened and he walked out, just before the door shut he stuck his head back in. "Try not to grind your teeth so much love, it's very unhealthy. I'm Ben by the way. "

"And why would I care?"

"Never said you would. I just wanted to make sure you never forget me."
