Chapter 16: The search continues

Arms and hair are flying everywhere! The sound of searing pain can be heard throughout the building. Except no one is left to help her, no one can possibly get to her. She tries to get away but one of the men have caught her by the hair and is pulling. Again the sound of pain as some of the hair starts to detach from her scalp. She closes her eyes obviously trying to control her powers enough to make the man let go and somehow get away, but it doesn't work. "If only Kevin could have actually taught me something!" Mikey screamed aloud. She tried to get away once more and actually succeeded, until the other man finally showed up. The man picked her up, threw her, and watched as she hit the wall and was immediately knocked unconscious.

"No!" Kevin shouted as he awoke from his nightmare. It had been a week at least since Mikey had been taken, they were still trying to find out where she was and it was driving him crazy. Every night he would have a new dream about the night Mikey was taken, and every night it would get worse. He kept thinking if only he'd worked her a little harder, she could have learned to control her powers if only he'd put more effort into making her try. If only he'd done all these things then she might still be there with him, she might be laying beside him, holding his hand as they talked about stupid things or played card games with her sister, she would know Ari was dating Henry, if he'd only taught her better he wouldn't feel so depressed and worried that maybe his girlfriend, the one he'd never had the courage to tell be loved, was already dead.

"Hey Kev you up yet?" Triss asked as she knocked softly on his door and walked in his room. "Wow you look terrible."

Kevin was laying in bed, sweat all over him from the intense nightmare he'd just awakened from. He hadn't even told Triss he was having the dreams but he was sure they could all tell. Since Mikey had been taken there had been cameras everywhere. He most likely yelled and rolled around uncontrollably during his dream and they saw it on the monitors.

"Thanks a lot sis. But i'm sure I do, i've felt better." Triss gave him a sad smile as she sat beside him on the bed. She paused for a moment as she took a damp washrag off the counter and started wiping off his face.

"Ever since mom died i've tried my best to look after you, it was hard, you looked up to dad so much." She sighed. "But when you came to your senses, I knew God had given me another chance to help you! Now that I can take care of you again i'm doing my best to make you happy, i'm going to make sure we get Mikey back. And I promise you that we will." Kevin smiled and hugged his sister.

"I am so lucky to have a sister like you. Are you sure i'm not adopted?" He joked. Triss laughed. "A few years ago I would have told you yes! But now I can't imagine life without my little twerp of a brother." They embraced again and Triss stood up to leave.

"If you knew anything that'd help me find Mikey," he stopped and took a deep breath before continuing, "you'd tell me wouldn't you?" Triss smiled "anything for my little brother." She turned and walked out leaving him alone to think once more.

"Then again." She suddenly said, her outline appearing once more in the door frame. "Don't you wish there was a way to figure out which magic was used when they apprehended her? That might help find her if there was a way. But that's just a thought." Triss added as she left once more, quickly smirking at her brother.

Kevin got up and walked to the bathroom, where he knew was the only private spot, other then the microphones that supposedly weren't in the bathroom. When Kevin was still with his dad he'd given him a watch that scrambled the microphones so when it was turned on you could talk freely without worrying that they would pick you up. He turned on the shower, so they wouldn't wonder why he was in the bathroom so long, and flipped the switch on his watch, then got out his phone. If Triss was sure that this was a good idea then he'd make the call, he'd call his old friend Freddy.

Freddy was one of the guys he had met while helping out his dad. He absolutely hated people with powers, his life's work was to somehow track them down and figure out what they do. George had later betrayed him and left him to be killed when Nina and her group had attacked one of there headquarters with him still inside. After a while Freddy began to believe that people with powers might not be so bad after all, he wanted to help Nina and her group. So instead of having him stay there with George wanting to constantly kill him for maybe telling there secrets, they sent him to another headquarters out of the country. If only they knew what Kevin knew, everyone knew Freddy had figured out a way to track people by there power skill. But what most people didn't know was that he had gotten extremely close to finding a way to figure out what sort of powers were used at a certain time, all he needed was a machine that he had invented and the place someone used there powers in. When Freddy had been betrayed he was so close to figuring that out for sure, and Kevin was guessing by now he knew how.

"Hey Freddy how you been?"

"Kevin my man how you been?" Freddy almost screamed through the phone. Kevin cringed, he knew his fathers watch blocked out the signals in the bathroom but if Freddy shouted any louder the microphones in the bedroom part of his room might pick him up.

"Good to see you too Freddy." He whispered into the phone.

Freddy stopped talking for a minute. "You didn't go back to your dad did you? Is that why you're whispering? When you first contacted me after you had gotten out of your fathers grip I was so happy to hear that but what, now you just went back to him?" Freddy half whispered half yelled through the phone again. Kevin could tell he was disappointed. Freddy had always been like a father figure to him and when his real dad had abandoned him it was one of the last straws before he crossed over to Nina's side.

"No way man i am not going back to my old man, don't worry about that. But i do need a favor," he explained.

"Anything!" Freddy eagerly agreed.

"Did you ever finish the thing you were building that shows what sort of powers were used in the same room at a certain time?"

"Ah i get you." Freddy said. "Ok i'll be on the next plane over."

"Oh no man I can't let you just uproot your life to come here and help me, especially since you have no idea what it's about, just send it to me i'll be good."

Freddy half laughed on the other side of the line. "You're so naive kid. Even if i did just send it to you like you said, you'd have no idea how to work it and might mess it up, plus i know you and as soon as you received any information from it you'd go on your own. So yes i'm coming, with my equipment, to help you find Mikey."

Kevin didn't say anything for a minute. "How'd you know it was Mikey?" He finally asked, knowing there was no way to change his mind from coming.

"Everyone knows  the famous Mikey. We all know we want her on our side, without her we're all doomed."

"I'm not trying to find and save her so she'll be on our side." Kevin said fast and strongly. "I'm doing it because I love her and would die if something happened to her." There was an awkward pause for a few minutes as Freddy let it sink in on the other side.

"Sorry man, even if you didn't love her and you were just friends you're a good kid and will always look out for your friends. I'm sorry I was talking like she was just a weapon we needed, she's a person and I will never forget that again."

Kevin smirked. "Thanks man, see you in a few hours."

"Alright, bye kid." Freddy got off the line and Kevin turned off the shower and put everything away to get ready to go back into the sleeping part of his bedroom.

"Finally," he thought. "Finally we're moving a little forward." He sighed as he closed his eyes and brushed his hands through his messy hair. He looked in the mirror and pictured Mikey, then he spoke to her, "i'm coming babe."

So Yay! Well sort of yay lol. Mikey gone which is bad but Kevin might have a way to save her so ya there's the Yay! (If you just said yay out loud then I feel very happy) lol anywho I hope you're still enjoying my book. I know there are a lot of things happening right know and you haven't heard about some people in awhile but don't worry i'll bring them back. I'm so sorry I haven't posted anything in a long while.
