I've never realized how lonely I am; Sooyeon is always at her college, our parents are working all day, and my friends... well, I barely have any friends. Even with this pretty face of mine, I can't manage to keep up with any of the popular girls in this school.
Why?
Because I adore studying and, well, they don't. Unlike my sister, I'm taking all honors or AP classes, have a GPA of 4.32, and I even managed to get an invitation from Harvard all the way across the world in the States during my junior year of college.
Even though my school is "one of the best" in South Korea, most of the kids are dumbasses honestly. The only reason why we have such a good reputation is because of all these students' families: they're all rich.
And my family? We're an average income family. No, I shouldn't call it average. My family makes enough to buy a house on the outskirts of Seoul, where many people live in apartments and condos because it's so cramped.
We're... more "wealthy" than the average Korean family but a lot less rich than the silver-spooned rich kids.
"Hey, Jung Soojung, stop studying already! Your eyes look like they're dropping." Amy, a Korean-American that goes to the same school as I do, begins her shower of love. I love Amy; she's always been by my side even though she's popular as hell. Goodness, I guess Americans are quite nice after all.
"Jung. Soo. Jung!" She whacks me across the head with her rolled-up magazine, sending my glasses across the floor. I glare at her with that confused face because I have no idea why she even had to do that.
Oh Sehun picks up my glasses and reaches across a desk to give them to me.
"Listen to your friend or I'll end up smacking you, too, eh?" Spoiled rich kid Sehun gets back to texting, who I assume is, his girlfriend.
Amy sits on top of the desk next to mine, due to the fact that there's no teacher or professor in this room at the moment. "Soojung, I have something to tell you!"
I stare at my AP calculus homework whole ignoring her. Gee, that's why so many people call me cold-hearted...
"There's this new game where—"
Slamming my pen down on my math homework, I coil my head into the dark pits of my grey sweater. "Hey, Lee Ahyeon!" I shyly scream her Korean name. She knows how frustrated I get when people annoy me while I do homework.
"Basically, it's a game where you can have a romance with a fictional person... oh, I'm having weird thoughts already." Amy swoons. I snap out of my educated mind and get into my secret, normal teenage girl mode.
"Like... date a boy?" I whisper as I look around to make sure no one's eavesdropping.
"HELL YEAH!" She yells it so loud in English that everyone in the classroom becomes quiet. I swear in my head and roll myself back into a turtle out of embarrassment that she's my friend.
"Sorry, everyone..." she awkwardly laughs and gets off of the desk. Wait, is that like a thing in the U.S.? To sit on a desk in school?
"Yes, you can have a virtual relationship with a guy. And guess what? You can choose 'mature' mode, too, where the character can get feisty with you." Ahyeon whispers. I roll my head over to the side and face her. I've always thought that her pale-tan skin matches the dark brown of her eyes. "I don't know any more information about it, but you can go get it at the game store across the street. Since it's developed by an American, the cost of the game said $229.99... which is about ₩229,000... and the headset is $100, which is like ₩100,000..." she continues.
By this point, I've totally forgetting all about this damn calculus homework or what ever the class is doing. Having a touchy-touchy relationship with a possible hot guy? Oh. My. God.
I should use different words that aren't like 'touchy-touchy'.
"So, you gonna get it?" Amy nudges me, knowing that I want it pretty badly. Man, is she just taking pride that an American like her invented such a brilliant game or is she just as thirsty and excited as I am?
"I'll... go look at it after school..." I wink and pick up my pen again.
"Wish...! This girl. You leave school at like 9:30 p.m. because you study so much!" Ahyeon slightly hits me and then skips across the room to flirt with her crush. I'm used to getting hit; I like it.
"I guess I'm going to go an a great adventure pretty soon..." I swoon.
