thefeygirl & TheDeadMoonChild have been betting, so this is dedicated to these amazing two!! X ❤️😂

Skulduggery stared at me.
And said nothing.
Growing impatient, and worried, I narrowed my eyes. "Is it something bad? Please tell me everyone's alright." I begged.
He stayed quiet still.
Before finally, he took Avril from my arms, and jostled her on his leg. "Valkyrie, it's... It's Fletcher.
He's was killed."

Time froze.

I was faintly aware of the strangled noise escaping from my mouth, as I shook my head, my eyes squeezed shut and my head ringing.
No no no no no no no!
He promised he'd come back safe...
It was a joke.
"Ha ha Skulduggery," I laughed uneasily , my throat tightening.
Why was it so hard to believe it was a joke?
"Val.... It isn't a joke...He was  killed at the warlock camp as a message to Gracious and Donegan.
I'm so sorry." He stated softly.

I stared at him.
This was all my fault.

Getting up, I stumbled to the front door, throwing it open and running outside.
The rain thundered in my head, leaving white noise around me. "Valkyrie!" Skulduggery  yelled, as I threw up in the bush next to the house, before I collapsed to the ground in sobs.
I couldn't breathe.

This isn't real.
This isn't real.
This isn't real.

"It's been 3 days Skulduggery! She needs air, she needs-"
"She needs time, Ghastly. Give her more time."
The footsteps faded away from outside the door, as I stood up from crouching, to lay back on the bed.

And you didn't even love him.

"Shut up." I hissed
I ignored the voice, feeling the weight on my shoulders and the guilt in my stomach.
It was like I was talking to shadows.

My hand hesitated on the handle, before I thought of my daughter.
She needed me.
The hallway was empty, and the stairs rested at the end of the hallway, staring me down.
I was scared.
Scared of moving on, moving on without him.
He deserved better.

As I descended the stairs, I noticed how the sound of my footsteps were so loud.
And how the only other sound in the house was the murmuring and laughing from downstairs.
The laughter of a baby.
I unintentionally moved faster, eager to see my baby, the last part I physically had of him.

Skulduggery was seated on the couch, holding Avril above him as his facade blew raspberries  into her stomach. Her blue eyes met mine, as I walked forward.
Skul turned to see me, and immediately deactivated his facade, and stood up, and I ran towards them. I stopped a second before, and gently embraced them.
Avril and skulduggery were all I needed to get through this.
With or without a father.
