"This place is so cute" I said as we the gravel turned into grass and I saw a cabin. There's a few other cars and three people sitting outside in lawn chairs around a fire.
"I think it's worth a two hour drive and a little lie to your mom, don't you?" She asked.
"Yeah, what is this place, do you live here?" I asked.
She laughed, "no way, it's my friend Kat's parents vacation house"
I nodded and opened up my door.
"Jaycee!" A few people yelled from the porch.
Then one girl ran down towards us.
Once she got close enough to see me she stopped, "oh, hi" she said staring at me then looked to Jaycee, "aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?"
Jaycee put her arm around my waist and pulled me closer to her, "Kat, this is Lydia. Lydia this is Kat"
"Nice to meet you" I said extending my hand.
She shook it, "nice to meet you too." Once she let go she clapped her hands, "Let's get you guys settled in." Then grabbed the duffle bag out of my hand and turned around to started heading towards the house.
As we made our way up onto the porch Jaycee stopped to talk to someone but I continued to follow Kat.
When we got into the house it was quieter so Kat turned around to me while walking, "The house is kinda packed because it's a three day weekend so most people took off work. What do you do?"
I realized I was a bit out of place once she said that, "Um.. I go to school"
She squinted her eyes a little, "like as in high school?"
"Yeah"
"Damn, I'm sorry. I was just assuming you were older since you're dating Jaycee"
I felt my stomach cramp, "We aren't dating"
Then her eyes went wide, "ooh", once we were up stairs she went to the first door on the left, "even though it's packed out, we always keep Jays room open"
Once I walked in I was a little bit blown away because it just didn't remind me of Jaycee. The same girl who wears flannels and combat boots has this room? It was a pastel yellow with a bay window and a king size bed with loads of pillows.
"Okay well I will let you get settled in" she said then I felt her presence leave the room.
So I went to the bay window and sat down. Out the window you could see the porch where Jaycee stood laughing with some of the other girls.
The way she smiled and brushed her hair back made me want to go down there with her, but I stayed to admire her for just a moment more.
