Our story began when I had just turned eighteen, and he had just turned twenty-one. Yes, we shared the same birthday, which was March 10. I was on my last year of high school, and already had been accepted to our local college to become an elementary teacher. He, even though he graduated at the top of his class, he still was around school helping as assistant teacher for our PE teacher.

We lived in a small city called Starpick in Maine. Starpick was run by werewolves. The city was small, but modern. It had the most amazing view of mountains, lakes, wildlife and forest. Everybody knew each other like family. The city was so safe that you didn't have to lock your front door. Well that and the fact that we were werewolves.

Humans and werewolves were treated equally. Sometimes there were racial problems, but that happened all over the world. Even in the werewolf community. We all lived together, but there were cities that were only populated by either humans or werewolves. There was no war; humans simply preferred to live separate from us. It didn't bother us because we were the same way. In our werewolf community we have three human families living in our pack because they like our culture; which is no different than theirs. Just that we shift into werewolves, and gave birth to puppies (not literally).

We are no different than them either. We both are human, but we were blessed into shifting like a wolf at any given time. As werewolves we are symbol of strength and power. We mostly ruled this planet; with almost half of our Presidents being werewolves. We first shift around the age of sixteen to eighteen years old. Unless you are from the main family, better known as the Alpha or Beta family, then you turn at sixteen. Once turned one can choose to join training or not. All the boys choose to join and even some girls. I didn't. I'm too lazy. My dad though, has trained me in normal face-to-face combat. So I do know how to defend myself in case of emergency.

At eighteen, that's the age where one's wolf starts looking for a mate. A mate is a person's other half. A mate is that special person who is the right piece of the puzzle in your life. Everyone has a mate. Werewolves just have it easy and can sense the other mate through smell, touch, and even the atmosphere. Some don't even find their mate and mate with mateless wolfs. Others just stay alone. The problem with mating with a mateless wolf is that you will never have children. The only way to have biological children is through mating with your mate. If someone just turned eighteen, and the future mate, who is not eighteen yet, happens to be next or near, there is a chance that they might not know that their mate is right next to them. That's what happened to us.

You would think that him being the future Alpha he would have it easier finding his mate.
