"are you ready?"

"yep." i replied as i turned to look at jack.

"good, he's here."

"okay. do you think i'm too excited about this?" i asked.

"no, it's a date, you should be excited! and wes is a good guy, i would be excited." he replied.

"okay. i'm gonna go now. bye, love you." i said as i walked out the doorway and downstairs.

"love you, too!" i heard him yell from the top of the stairs.

"hey, i'm ready!" i said, when i reached the bottom and saw wes waiting for me.

"then let's go." he replied, elongating the 'o' sound.

we got seated in his car and started driving.

"so, where are we going?" i asked, in a song-song voice.

he chuckled, "to this diner i know, it's small, but damn, they know how to cook there."

i laughed and we sat in a comfortable silence until we got to the diner, which was really close to the jacks' place.

we walked through the front doors and he guided me to a booth towards the back.

we sat and almost immediately there was a waitress at our table, ready to take our order.

"hey wes, want the usual?" she asked.

"yeah, thanks riley." he replied.

"and for your date?" she grinned, turning towards me.

"i'll just have whatever he's having!" i replied.

she nodded, "it'll be ready soon, i'll be back with your drinks in a minutes!" and she turned and walked towards the kitchen.

i turned back towards him and lifted my eyebrows, "yeah, i kinda come here a lot." he explained, sheepishly.

i nodded and smiled.

"so, where are you from? since i know you're just here for a visit." he asked.

"i'm from texas, i'm a long way from home." i laughed.

"that's cool! i've never been there before. so how do you know the jacks?"

"it's.... a long story." i replied, slowly.

"well, that's what dates are for, to get to know the deep, dark stuff." he joked.

so i told him. i told him about jules talking to me the first time, about shawn's parents, about when i actually started to like shawn, about jules being awful, about lauren, and about the tweets. i told him every little thing that i'd only told a handful of people before.

when i was done he was looking at me with a look of sympathy on his face.

"don't look at me like that, please. i'm over it," i said.

"that's a lot. i'm sorry that all of that happened." he replied, and grabbed my hand.

"yeah, but you grow from it i guess."
