i watched the boys being photographed on the carpet of the premier, off to the side so i wouldn't be a bother.
i looked around me and took in how much my life had changed in such little time. it was crazy that i was now at a movie premier with some of my closest friends, surrounded by celebrities who i once could only admire from afar. i was so caught up in my own thoughts that i didn't notice gilinsky standing in front of my saying something.
"what?" i asked, loudly so i would be heard over the cameras shuttering and the interviews around.
"just like you, never listening." he joked in reply. "they want us to do an interview inside the building, can you wait here for shawn so he can find us later?" he asked.
i nodded and watched the jacks and sammy walk off with a lady that was holding a note pad. i briefly wondered if nate was supposed to come with us until shawn walked up to me.
"i think i'm done with the cameras for tonight," he started. "i think there's some food a little ways down, wanna go see how much we can get?" (idk if they have food at these types of things but i would hope there is food bc if i was there i would want food?? so yeah they gonna eat good)
i nodded eagerly, realizing that through all the rush of getting ready and driving here, i hadn't eaten much today.
"oh good, they have fruit." shawn pointed, as we reached the table.
i scrunched my eyebrows, "you don't eat fruit that much, though?" i asked, confused.
"yeah, but that's like what half your diet consists of." he said laughing, while handing me a plate.
i couldn't argue so i just started loading my plate with the beautiful watermelon and strawberries in front of me.
we sat eating and talking about his upcoming shows until i heard a publicist walk by trying to talk quietly on her phone.
"-should i get a picture? they're standing there talking like their scandal didn't happen." she said into her phone, i nudged shawn so he could hear too and he looked at me with a concerned expression. i momentarily made a face at the word 'scandal', it was not that serious!
we couldn't even process the fact that, yeah maybe standing here talking like best friends would cause some drama in our world, before we heard the click of a picture being taken.
"aw, shit." i mumbled to myself and started speed walking in the same direction that i saw the jacks go in. i heard footsteps follow me and knew that shawn was right behind me.
we went into a building and found a little area that wasn't crowded and finally slowed down.
"maybe i should go give her a statement?" he asked, once we had settled ourselves down and made sure that no one could over hear us. i also made sure no one around us seemed to care about our conversations before deciding the respond.
"what would you do that for?!" i exclaimed, not understanding why he would be feeling a need to talk to the woman, especially without it being a pre organized ordeal.
"that way i can make it clear that we're just friends, with a clean slate. maybe things won't get as twisted up if i do, and then if they miss quote me i can get my team to fix it with them because i would've given an interview freely." he replied, seeming glad that he came up with the plan all by himself. i considered it in my head and started nodding, it made sense and if it worked, nobody could make assumptions. well, they'll make assumptions either way, but this way it won't be as bad; it was a good plan as far as we were concerned.
"you're getting too smart for me, mendes." i joked and started pushing him out the door. "ill wait here until you're done, just come back and find me, i'm ready to watch this movie."
he agreed and walked out, i watched him find the lady easily and smile at her brightly, using his charm as always. she seemed thrilled to have him give her an insight and immediately started writing and taking her phone out to record their conversation. they walked together and made their way closer to me, which i was happy about because now i can overhear their conversation.
"-we decided, mutually, that due to our now common friends it would be best if we could be civil with one another and put our differences aside. she's become great friends with the jacks and the others. we both realized that our conflict was putting a strain on all our relationships, including those with our friends as they always had to tiptoe around us. so, me and leena are just friends now. we understand that people may make their own conclusions but we are now friends for the sake or our other friends and for the benefit of ourselves. this new peace is for the better meant of ourselves, and not for the people who aren't us or our friends. we would both like to make it clear that at the moment, all that is between us is friendship." he spouted. i listened, proud of the way he was handling the situation. the lady thanked him and he bid her goodbye before walking back to me.
"we're getting better at handing situations," i smiled as he reached me. "is this what growing up feels like?" i asked.
he laughed and pulled me with him as he saw the jacks starting to wrap up their current interview. "we are getting better, and we're growing up. would you look at us." he responded.
"we still need to master the thinking things through part, though." i considered.
"yeah but, do we ever?" he smiled and placed an arm around my shoulders and we walked. i shook my head in response, glad that me and shawn were back to normal. atleast as normal as it gets with us.
