Chapter Six
The car ride to my house was quiet. Everyone in their own thoughts. I had just kissed Isaiah Jamerson, a rival gang leader, and I had enjoyed it. It was hard trying to forget the imprint of his lips pressed against my own. His eyes had gone wide at the sudden grip on his hair that had made the beautiful sound escape through his lips. That look filled my stomach with millions of small butterflies.
That look filled my entire body with warmth that I hadn’t felt before. That look had me wanting to just jump into his arms so I could kiss him like my life depended on it. I’d caused that reaction in him and without even knowing it; he’d caused those reactions inside of me. I felt a tap on my shoulder. Looking up I saw Rose looking at me, calculating.
“Jayden?” She slowly tested out my name. I knew she was concerned by the full use of my name. Plus, when she was nervous she would begin twirling a piece of her hair in around her forefinger.
I turned off my thoughts momentarily to see what my partner in crime slash best friend was worrying about. “Yeah?”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” She repeated her question from earlier when we were speeding off from Isaiah.
I nodded briefly. I knew I was going to tell her what had happened because I told her everything. The only problem was Alec. I couldn’t tell her about my attraction to the enemy and the kissing in the dark alley in front of him. I would already be ashamed, but with Alec listening in - it would be even worse.
I answered her making sure to avoid the real cause of my silence. “I’m fine. I’m just reminiscing about how I almost lost the necklace. I haven’t had anything like this happen ever since my very first job when Dad and I were ambushed.”
“It’s not your fault J-Doll.”
Back to my nickname. She was no longer worried now that thought she knew what was wrong with me. “No one could have known he was going to try to take off with the necklace.”
Sighing I replied, “You’re right. Just promise you guys won’t say anything about this to anyone, especially Dad. I can’t afford this information getting out and about in the streets.”
“I promise.” Rose responded immediately. Hearing her say that caused a grin to spread across my face. I knew I could always trust her with anything.
Both of us then turned to Alec who grew squirmy from both of our intense gazes locked upon him. We kept staring him down until he spoke, not being able to take the heat anymore.
“What?” He looked around anxiously. “You guys already know that I wouldn’t say anything in the first place.”
I chuckled lightly. “You better not because we will spill your secret if needed.”
Rose started to laugh knowing exactly what I was talking about, the video that we had held over his head for at least two years now. Most of the time we used it just to get something we wanted from him.
“Both of you are so evil.” He whined. “I need new friends.” He stated grumpily stopping at a red light.
Rose’s laughter had been reduced to giggles. “It’s not our fault we accidentally walked in on you dancing to Beyoncé’s Single Ladies in your Mom’s heels.”
His arms flew out away from the steering wheel. “It was for my five year old cousin! You all know how in love Lucy is with Beyoncé! If I didn’t dance for her, then she would have cried her little eyes out!”
