************************************I climbed out the window, hoping I'd never come back to this place. I heard my parents yelling downstairs, glass shattering in between shouts.
"YOU IDIOT! I COULD KILL YOU RIGHT NOW!" I heard my mom scream. I brushed away tears, readjusting my backpack on my shoulders.
I ran into the woods in my backyard. Maybe I'd find someone to stay with. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed a number.
"Hello?" I heard over the phone in a sleepy voice.
"Hey Alex, it's Violet. My parents got in a huge fight and I sorta ran away. Can I stay with you?" I asked frantically, hoping she wouldn't tell me to go back.
"Yeah sure, I'll set up a bed for you on the floor."
I sighed in relief. Thank god.
I raced through the woods, ignoring the cuts and scrapes I kept getting. At least I was a fast runner, and I was agile too.
I finally reached Alex's house and pounded on the door.
"Violet! Come on in, Alex told me about your dilemma." her mother smiled at me, leading me upstairs.
"Hey," Alex said halfheartedly. I could tell she knew I was upset.
"Hi," I mumbled, sitting on the makeshift bed and taking my black snapback off.
"So what happened...?" Alex asked in a concerned tone.
I told her about the events of the night, how my mom and dad had started talking about my brother, and how that eventually turned into a full fledged fight.
Alex listened until the end. "Well, you can stay here as long as you need."
I fiddled with the hem of my shirt. "thanks."
Alex soon fell asleep, and I sat on my bed, brushing through the purple mess of wavy hair on my head. I dyed my hair a lot, usually really vivid colors.
I pulled out my phone, plugging my earbuds in and listening to a song on repeat.
Why is it always stormy weather?
And brother, tell me when does it get better?
Why did you leave?
Why did you die?
You finally made your brother cry, and I know you're watching over us tonight.
And I hope you're watching over us tonight...Silent tears fell from my face as I thought of Bryce, the best brother on earth. The one who always saved me when people were picking on me, the one who would reach things that I couldn't, the one I looked up to.
And then the scene replayed in my head for the millionth time, his car rolling off the highway, only me being able to get out, not being able to save him. All I could do was watch in sheer terror as the car burst into flames.
I fell face first on my pillow, slowly drifting to a deep and dreamless sleep.
I woke up the next morning and felt tear stains on my face. I raced to the bathroom to wash off. My eyes were brighter than usual, shining a sparkling sea green that made me gasp slightly. They were never like this.I shrugged it off, washing my pale face in the sink and getting dressed in a low cut tank top and high waisted shorts. I grabbed my beanie and put it on too, just cause it went with the rest of my outfit.
Alex was dressed and smiling at me when I sat down for breakfast.
"So wanna go see Jasper and Tyson?" she asked, eating her waffles.
I nodded. "Sure."
We headed to the park where the four of us always met up, and saw Jasper a and Tyson running up to where we were, right near the ice cream parlor.
We sat down for ice cream. Alex got mint chocolate chip, Jasper got vanilla, Tyson got rocky road, and I got strawberry. We sit in silence, making chit chat every few minutes. I told the others about what happened with me and my parents, shrugging it off as if it was nothing.
Jasper brushed her fingers through her jet black hair. "So you're staying with Alex now?" her gray eyes looked stormy, almost as if pitying me.
I hated that.
"Yeah. No biggie." I smirked, leaning back in my chair.
A girl walked into the parlor, her black hair flowing down to her chest, and her ivory skin glowing. Her blue eyes suddenly looked at me with an intense but kind gaze.
I tried to pull off my mysterious and sexy look. I bit my lip gently, running my fingers through my hair and pulling my lip into a slight smirk. It worked for a moment, until I fell over in my chair.
Ah, I was quite the charmer.
