The fire

There was a face.

I remember that much. I remember the flames creating a ghostly, skeletal face as the car blew to pieces.

"You killed my brother." I growled at Mortem.

"Do you really believe that to be true?" he asked, his voice smooth as silk, but hiding something underneath.. Maybe worry?

"You are death itself. You killed my brother. You want to kill me now." anger bubbled in my stomach as I spoke.

"And what gives you that idea?"

"My brother had the Gift too. You killed him, thinking you eliminated the last of my family with the Spirit of the Wolf. But you we're wrong.. You figured out that I had it too. You want me to join you so you can kill me."

"LIES!" he screeched, the castle trembling.

I don't exactly know what happened next. I found a burst of energy, probably due to my anger, and kicked the Lord of Death in the stomach. He stumbled backwards, his scythe falling from his hand. My friends were released, and of course they all morphed into wolves, except Brandon.

I lunged for the Scythe, but Mortem was quick. He dove towards me, grabbing my leg.

"NO!" I screamed, grabbing the weapon. Brandon pounced, landing on Death's back. I heard growling and a sound of wood cracking, but didn't pay much attention. From overhead, gryphons cawed at Jasper, Tyson, Alex and Bella.

I have the scythe. I can kill the gryphons.

I screamed, jumping at the creatures and impaling each with the tip of the scythe, as if it were a pick ax. All four fell to the ground, leaving my friends and I gasping for air. Bella was the first to regain her senses and pulled me close to her.

"Be safe, love," she whispered.

I started walking away until she pulled me back, kissing me gently and slowly on the lips. I stood there for a moment, not sure what happened, until I heard Brandon scream. I spun around, sprinting toward the fight that was going on.

Brandon lay helpless on the ground; a sight that I was hoping not to see. The anger I had earlier suddenly resurfaced, with twice as much force.

I screamed, tackling Mortem and pushing him to the ground.

He's not taking another person I care about. Never.

I slashed the scythe across his neck, his skull rolling across the ground.

My vision blurred, and I heard my friends running towards Brandon and I.

But that's the last thing I remember.
