"I feel like this is all just a sick and twisted dream.. Like I'm going to wake up any second," she muttered next to me.
"I wish it were, but I dont think it is." I looked down, listening to the crackling fire that had put the others to sleep.
Jasper leaned her head on my shoulder, a common gesture between us that we'd do when we were tired or sad.
"Hey Violet?" she whispered.
"Yeah?" I asked quietly, leaning my head against hers.
"Do you think all of us are going to survive...?"
The question hit me like a train.
Do you think all of us will survive?
I didn't like those words. I felt my face turn pale, tears burning my eyes. "Let's hope," I said shakily.
My eyes drooped with sleepiness. I yawned, laying down on my sleeping bag.
Jasper laid next to me and hugged me, her forehead against mine. She was my best friend, she had been for a year now. She knew almost everything about me. I felt her slowly fall asleep, and I did the same as it approached 3 am.
I slept dreamlessly, thankfully. Except for words echoing in my head with each breath I took.
You will not win.
The voice scared me, low and raspy. It sounded demonic, almost like a hiss. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it definitely wasn't friendly.
Whelp, I'm screwed.
