I don't know where you're going
But do you got room for one more
Troubled soul?
I don't know where I'm going but I don't think I'm coming home
And I said
I'll check in tomorrow
If I don't wake up dead
This is the road to ruin
And we're starting at the end.The Fall Out Boy lyrics pulsed through my mind as we made our way through the woods that morning. It was cold, a light snow falling on the ground, making me shiver.
I pulled my sweater tighter around me, I hadn't thought to bring any heavy clothes, so I settled on wearing a long sleeve shirt and sweater.
If it gets any colder, I'll have to wear everything I packed.
Bella looked beautiful, her hair covered in snow. I couldn't help but stare as she stuck out her tongue to catch snowflakes.
One landed on my nose, making Bella giggle. Blushing profusely, I brushed it off.
Bella shivered, and of course, my immediate instinct was to give her my jacket. I took it off and wrapped it around her shoulders.
"Thanks." Her smile made me feel warmer than the jacket did.
The day was boring as we trudged on, only stopping once in a while to find and distill some water.
That night Jasper, Alex, and Tyson fell asleep, leaving only Bella and I to take watch.
"Violet?" she asked, her voice shaky.
"Yeah?" I answered, shivering.
"How do we know where to go?"
I looked down, not really knowing the answer myself. "Well, you know when you get this feeling in your stomach that says you're doing something correctly?"
"Yeah."
"It's like that. We follow that feeling in our gut and eventually it'll lead us to where we need to be. Hopefully we get there soon, because if we don't, I'll probably freeze my ass off."
She laughed, a sweet laugh that could make birds sing. I smiled and looked her in the eyes.
She's so pretty. Too bad she probably isn't into me.
Without warning, she did something I didn't expect her to do. She took my hand, gently intertwining it with her own. Warmth spread through my body, and I felt my heart pounding in my chest at a million miles an hour.
She leaned her head on my shoulder, yawning sleepily. I let her fall asleep, being careful not to wake her.
I readjusted her so that her head was laying on my lap, the rest of her body on a sleeping bag. She seemed peaceful, a smile etched on her face as she snored softly.
Maybe this is the beginning of a love story...
